Originally, I was in working in product engineering in Car manufacturing, we would go to proving grounds like Mira and Millbrook and test pre-production cars, which isn’t as exciting as it sounds, but the plant closed down, and we all got bumper payouts—mine was 125k. I then applied for a job while drunk in Telecommunications, and it turned out that I had an aptitude for it., I was contracting for Openreach and within a year I was in their top 5% performers which explains why they didn’t sack me. It was good fun, but too much disposable income led to drinking and drugs all of the time so I binned it off, mainly because I wasn’t going running every morning. I took 6 months off then got a job with a great company and was finishing by lunchtime most days, but they got taken over and thought that I would double my workload for the same money. I was just about to leave when they offered to pay me off. The job didn’t really feel like working and was good fun.
