The Climate Change Thread
I think those are buffers.
The locomotive itself is a shunter.
Let’s not get into a ‘modules’ and ‘units’ discussion Dave. We’ll be here all day!
LOL!
I may have used buffers before.
SD and Millsy can have half a lol.
Hursty I read a bit about it a few years ago and it was pretty depressing, dunno that anything has changed.
Essentially it was 50 / 50 if your offsetting happened at all. Companies outsourcing offsetting to other companies who outsourced and so on and so on, and then the ones who did physically do something might not be up to the task, trees planted found dying and not being replaced etc, plastic collections being redumped or having a giant travel footprint. Even the good tree planting ones are fraught, most plant mono culture plantation style trees, which, yes, collect the carbon, but create habitat deserts that fuck all wants to live in, you may as well grow palm oil as plant a conifer or pine in Britain.
For a flight to the states I had a look at paying for individual trees to be planted in Scottish rewilding programme, think it was around £15 a tree, and they guaranteed slow growing, native trees that supported wildlife, and that would be replaced if they didn’t reach maturity etc. Think it was about £100 to offset the flight, and will take about 300 years to do the required offsetting.
Windmill foundations being built and shipped from china, China not even at cop26!
Derry transport just ordered 30 million worth of electric buses no doubt making their way from far a field when we have Wrightbus down the road in Ballymena building zero emission hydrogen buses. The mind boggles with some of the crazy decisions going on in government.
Do any of you guys make any personal decisions on your own carbon foot print? I personally down sized to a smaller home a few years ago, I’m in a small enough city with good cycle routes so i barely use the car anymore, thinking seriously of getting rid of it.
Funky Next car will be electric, and I have no interest in ever setting foot in an airport ever again, certainly won’t be taking an annual ‘two weeks in the sun with the family’ type holiday with a flight, they’re about the most cunty thing you can do after voting for the Conservatives. Future hols will be UK or Europe by train. Trying to buy more ‘ethical’ clothes but it’s a bit of a nightmare, in the same way as the offsetting mentioned earlier, and I regularly give up, best bet is to just wear the clothes you already have until they fall off you.
Am off to Ibiza twice next year.
Cheers!
November, and again, out in a t-shirt. We’re fucked. Major crop failures just around the corner, probably next summer. Prepper library ordered, gun licence applied for, snorkel for the Golf being fitted next week.
I’ve seen Northerners in t-shirts when it’s minus 2.
