Remember Lisa Loud? Cracking DJ who never quite got the credit she deserved. Really good laugh too. She played some cracking sets at Turnnills and Club for Life, usually overshadowing the more famous male headliners. Nancy Noise was also quality the times I saw her

alistair Don’t think I ever saw her.

There were a lot of female DJs (usually with crap names) around in the late 90s - Lisa Lashes, Misstress Barbara, Anne Savage, Lottie, Smokin Jo, Lisa PinUp… was Lisa Loud really the first?

Amps Lottie was the only one who played anything you would want to listen to.

Lottie was ‘dece’ as Smallman would say. Misstress Barbara played alright (proper) techno, but of the bouncy Umek and Valentino type IIRC.

I usually saw Lisa Loud on the bill for the more handbag house nights around Brum, like Moneypenny’s and Ministry of Sound Bar.

Never saw her but she was around pretty early on…certainly early 90s, probably late eighties with the likes of Nancy Noise

Amps She used to play before 12 at Turnmills to a half empty dancefloor at best. It officially finished at 7am (and the rest) so the few times I saw her, I was still straight. She was ok 😂

Lottie could pull out a really decent set of jacking house.

      Chester burd.

I suspect the reason so few of us saw these female DJs in the 90’s is because the industry was so blatantly sexist. They were all as good if not better than the very well connected Judge Jules!

Er, I saw most of them, just not Lisa Loud.

I think there was some sexism, but not of the sort you mention. I saw Lisa Lashes, Anne Savage (they were regulars), Lisa Pinup and Lottie* at Sundissential, who seemed to have figured booking loads of female djs had UV-wearing teenage boys queuing up to cream their pants over them.

*My memory does not deceive me, she definitely played Sundissential a few times when she was less well known, early on though, to a sparse room.

I must have heard DJ Rap play at sterns in the early 90’s. Can’t remember if she was any good though.

Give me “handbag” over “hardbag” any day of the week. Industrial filth. My hoover makes a better noise.

Amps barbara is an excellent dj. i’ve seen her several times and she’s never been off, may get a little ear-bleedy at times, but that’s too be expected.

Only ever saw her once and she finished on Das Glockenspiel on the main room at Cream. A moment I’ll never forget.

          I defo would too

            Barbara or Lisa Loud?

I hate that record, it’s fucking shit.

I remember a particularly good 2-4 set where she played the Bedrock mix of Luzon and Saints & Sinners and finished on the Taucher mix of Ayla which brought the house down. Back then, it was good to hear both in a peak time set.

Das Glockenspiel, awful end of the night ruiner, proper downer of a track. Had to endure it about 5 times IIRC.

Darkened room, lights about to go up, spasticated mongs listening to a glockenspiel and not even dancing.

End of the night calls for a last burst of spectacular tops-off spine-tingling vocal e-music, not that sort of indulgent comedown-inducing shite.

Never saw Lisa Loud but Lottie was always bang on.

                Oh for fucks sake…

The joy of the last sparks of a mitsi turbo

Women being Dj’s is the same as women’s football. Who would have ever bothered going to a football match if it was only women playing? Same goes for Dj’ing. And darts 😃

bosstrabs Jules was the master of the anchor leg. Gave the crowd what they wanted. Weapons grade cheese and they’d be begging for more.

Only saw Jules about 2 or 3 times but sounds about right.

Oakenfold as well, before he started playing shite like Bullet in a Gun
