For what its worth …. I am a Panasonic loyal customer

Had a Plasma , which gave me 10+ years good service but made the jump to OLED last year

You cant really go too wrong with Panny, Sony, Samsung or LG - all about slight personal preference when you go and look at the screen IMO

Currently got this https://www.panasonic.com/uk/support/discontinued-products/televisions/tx-55gz950b.html
Which is obviously discontinued but there is this years version available

Other reason I went with that as only brand that supports both Dolby & HDR10+ currently

Imagine over next couple of years one of those formats will win out, bit like VHS/Betamax

Millsy I was gonna move the conversation along to Sony, but I didin’t think anyone here had one. The one I will be replacing is a Sony, I think it’s nearly 15 years old, the screen has finally given up, it’s getting odd blocks off colour burnt into it. I’m of the impression that much of Sony’s gear is a bit better built than most, but that is reflected in the prices.

Amps My current main TV is a Sony and aside from it not being 4k, I have no complaints. I would buy a Sony again too 🙂

wrongun I got a plasma Panasonic, and it’s still superb. TBH I’ve not had a comparison in ages for understandable reasons.

Used to be the best when they made the TRINITRON.

      • Amps replied to this.

mono-stereo I saw one of their 'whatever the fuck Sony’s top of the line is now called’ numbers a year or two ago, it was mad money but looked miles ahead of everything else in the shop*

*most of what you see in the shop is bullshit, as they are purpose made video files for that specific model, so they should all look shit hot, the real test is how Natasha Raskin looks on Antiques Road Trip via an SD signal scaled up to 4K on a Tuesday afternoon.

Most of what I watch (70s porn, Channel 5 Traffic Cops, McGuyver, Bullseye and assorted snuff films) requires decent upscaling. I’m constantly impressed with how the Sony manages to make classic movies like Turner & Hooch or Mac and Me look like the latest Nolan.

Millsy it’s not about how good the tv is, but the quality of what you are watching on your tv, and that is a choice selection. 3D TVs is really what you are after

Meh. 3d was a mahoosive fad imo. Was never really that interested in it. I remember when the first few big 3d films launched and then loads followed suit. It’s anyone making anything in 3d any more?

My mate bought one, spent a fortune on it (against my advice that he’dnever use the 3d) and true to form he’s only watched one film in 3d as it gave him headaches lol

Amps Sony are well behind the curve. They’re living off their brand and their history. A Sammy or an LG - they’re your choices. I bought a very expensive TV and went through the whole selection process - Sony is not at the races at all.

As soon as Grant huddles himself off the Fabric stairlift, Millsy’s going for the kill

                CJ recommends LG OLED TVs

Along_the_Wire Sony is not at the races at all.

In what way? More details please. I have to say, knowing their build quality is a bit better and that I might get a few more years out of it does appeal at the moment.
