mono-stereo everything’s subjective Mono… did we have proper go at it? Did Southgate play all his cards? Did he try every Avenue? No he didn’t. With how many defensive players on the pitch do you think the team becomes overly defensive..8? 9?
As for Southgate knowing better, sometimes when people get too immersed in what they do, they miss the obvious. And that might have happened here - step back and you can see we did way better in this tournament when we played openly.
It might be the case that Southgate has plenty of positive attributes as a manager.. smart people learn from experience - they learn their lessons, and progress… and maybe he will do before next summer’s World Cup. From what I can see though he has pretty entrenched suspicions of flair players and that’s a problem.
