Western governments never learn, or maybe there is an ulterior motive to these kinds of ‘wars’

You cannot wipe out groups like the Taliban, they just play the waiting game, much like the situation in Vietnam, they know western military deployments are not sustainable any more.

My general view is the west need these type of wars to loosen off some ammo and keep the defence industry pumping, however unfortunately there is always the inevitable human, animal and environmental cost, but when has any government really given a shit?

Dubman it’s the timing of his withdrawal which is so catastrophic. The Taliban were halfway to recapturing the country. Biden voted for both military action in Afghanistan and the Iraq war.

alistair Ali, with all due respect you haven’t a clue what you’re on about. The Taliban have been ramping up control of the country since March 2020 because the Yanks (Trump) signed a deal with them in Doha in Feb 2020 effectively handing them back the country, a deal which completely cut the Afghan Govt out, Trump also recognised the Taliban Emirate in the deal. The Russians and the Chinese gave their backing. Pointing fingers at the current Yank administration shows a complete non understanding of what’s happening. This has been brewing long before Biden was in office (not that I’m a fan). It was supposed to be a peaceful handover, shortsighted as that might have been its not surprising given who sat at the table with the Taliban. Anyway, facts matter.
