Hursty I’ve got 5 trail races (13-22 km) scheduled from may through october and a 50k in September for my A race. Doing base building now and start a 26 week block at the end of march. The ultra scares the shit out of me, so should make for good motivation.

What’s the major hurdles you’ve had with the 100 milers? Is it a fitness or nutrition thing, just tough days? That’s a distance I still don’t comprehend.

303abuser Nice one, sounds like a solid plan for the year, you’ll be fine for the 50k in September after that much training

Ultras are definitely more mental and physical, if you can overcome that voice which wants you to quit the more it hurts you’ll be fine. For me, I would say its mainly mental, I usually blame nutrition, dizziness, heat, physical condition, but fundamentally I could have carried on each time (binned 2 around 80 miles), just at a much slower pace which annoys me.

My mate said to me, the ultra game is all about finish lines, not finish times, which is so true, and I need to take that advice this year. Always have a time in mind and when I drop off the pace it gnaws away big style

Officially 2 stone heavier since moving to cyprus, I am participating in “meating”

ain’t seen my willy in 2 years!

Have you thought about tying a sausage to a headband (on a stick) so it dangles in front of you as you run.

Laser-like focus would ensue I think

Hursty It’s so difficult to shut that voice off. It’s one of the reasons I want to try longer distances, I’m curious as to how it feels and to see how mentally strong I really am. It’s so tough to not start too fast, get the hydration and nutrition right, being physically prepared, then to deal with pain and self doubt while executing a plan. It’s a really interesting puzzle to try to solve.

It’s not an interesting puzzle to try to solve 303, it’s a FASCINATING one.

Lol. Please absolutely keep us posted on that age old conundrum.

Would you prefer weekly or monthly training updates? If it’s valuable for you, I can go full hugo and post daily metrics with a detailed analysis.

Millsy Done. I’ll post my daily garmin stats and I’ll dm you a live track link so you can follow my runs in real time. Should be riveting stuff, could replace Netflix.

Video blogs should fill the qual aspects too. Can’t wait!

Video is going to require a patreon subscription, that kind of value can’t be had for free.

        Mad_Cyril It’s at Hoylake

Prepare for the boozyest golf comp you have ever been to. Went to the last one at Hoylake and it was menthol. Played it about two years ago now, and they were doing a few bits about the place for this year. Extending tee boxes etc.

What did you think of it?

They have a decent winter rate but it’s a bit exposed that time of year, have always gravitated to the Open courses further up the coast

It’s a boss course and was in great nick when I was there, proper links stuff. You’ll take your chances in the winter, same as anywhere, but that’s park of what make links golf. Be aware, they play it in a different order for the comps, The first aint the first when the TV cameras are in town.

Links Golf is the only proper golf, and the elements are part of it. try and play as many as I can and was a member at Conwy.

All that’s largely out the window now we’ve gone down to 1 leccy car, hence the 👀 on courses closer to home

Was that not something of a hike for a regular game of golf? You’re near Manchester? No?

Went out about once a month, sometimes more in the winter.

Only an hour & 10/20 ish door to door.

                  Love the links
