alistair ooh, I don’t know. Remember M8?

I don’t.

Dan Muzik was much better

Yeah, I regularly bought Muzik as well as DJ Mag.

  • Dan replied to this.

Amps Yeah… but does it not sound a bit mad?

    ?

Dan a bit before my time, but pretty cool. Not sure why ‘Fragile’ had to be cut at the end there.

I know I’ve posted it before, but this is easily one of the best giveaway CDs ever; still an excellent mix:

smokindan probably the one track I’ve played the most over the past couple of years

‘Rhouses is a disappointment’ by seminal Ipswich punk scene noisesters ‘SINGLE-TRABBED CUNT*’

hugopal Mixmag was absolute trash as a read but it was good for three things: the club listings at the back, the past month’s Essential Mix tracklistings and the free covermount CDs which went through a sustained spell of being quite brilliant from about 1997 to 2000.

Homegrove Who was he on Bedrock? I think I might of met him with my mate Neil in MOS once but not sure.

I thought most electronic music mags had club listings at the back?

Also, any CDs in particular? I had a look at discogs and there didn’t seem to be many even listed from that time period, and there wasn’t anything which tempted me enough in that era to make me buy a copy.

mono-stereo “ ‘Seduction’ is slightly reminiscent of their late 90’s period when they produced ‘Sunshine’ on Intec”

Even “slightly” is being incredibly generous.

hugopal Sunshine was a great track….in-tec was on fire then.

          hugopal

Played “Yimanya” years ago at a Halloween party that was far too big for my DJing abilities.

          Ripped the roof off.

Rodriguez Jr has been brilliant this year producing and remixing and I reckon this is my favourite of his - absolutely love it.

alistair I’m working on one over Christmas! I’ve been through the tedious purchase and selection process!

Gave all of these a rinse…

bosstrabs Props for putting them all in order Dave. I’ll let Hugo pick over the date anomalies from your earlier post <shakes head>

bosstrabs so when you said “went through a sustained spell of being quite brilliant from about 1997 to 2000.” you actually meant “2000 to 2001”.

There do seem a few decent mixes in there tbf. I’ve def listened to that Timo Maas one before somewhere, now that you mention it.

Either I just didn’t notice the decent ones on the shelves at the time - pretty sure I had a DJ Mag subscription around then - or the mag was so shite I still couldn’t bring myself to buy it even with a decent CD. Can’t remember now.

                Sublime mixing on this gem.

bosstrabs Jon Sa Trincha Naked Ibiza: The Salinas Beach Mix ‎(CD, Comp, Mixed) MM 007 2000

                Mustard.

And went to Ibiza that year.

                Tore it up, natch.

Played these constantly for months on end.

Yes Hugo, you absolute pedant. The anomaly in dates has already been pointed out by MC.

I simply remembered buying it regularly during the years I was going clubbing every week, which was between 1997 and about 2003.

Muzik also had some great cover CDs around that time - particularly remember a Layo and Bushwacka one (the Ibiza Cheese Free Mix or something).

The Journey mixmag cd from 1998 was a classic.

Used to love Mixmag, an easy read which kept ones finger on the pulse.

bosstrabs Pete Tong’s Deep Funk Theory covermount is one if my favourites mixes.

bosstrabs Red Jerry’sLate Nite Drive was a particularly good one from Muzik

Or one could stay one step ahead with mixmag update….Seem to remember being on the Adriatic with Gordon Kaye (editorial team) discussing this whilst fucked. 🤔

Yeah, I bought that issue, that cd got a lot of listens on my summer hols.

This was my fav from it:
