In an attempt to play devils advocate (again), the Azov Battalion are a major part of Ukraine’s national guard. I’m only assuming but if Russia sees them as having free reign then it begs the question, why? It would be rich of Russia if so given their own connections with far right groups to be fair but I reckon that’s where the “Nazi” narrative is born from. Like most things here there are deeper and largely unspoken about nuances to this conflict.

LT42 especially in west ukraine the regions have right leaning parties. I think this is where the denazification comes from, in one region there is a statue to a ukraine nationalist. Putin sees the maidan protests as the nazification of ukraine which is why you hear he wants to install Yanukovich as leader basically erasing the past 8 years. My take on it.

LT42 we don’t have a national guard, but the police have been forced to kick out a lot of nazi cops lately. They tried to push the issue of far right symphaties under the rug for a long time, but lately they couldn’t continue to do so yet. There’s been numerous scandals in the police here, so they’ve had to start to do something to clear their reputation. Prime example was that the head of the drug department of the Helsinki police was found out to have been a boss of great many dealers in Helsinki. They found stashes of money buried on his property, it was all out of some run of the mill corrupt cop-movie.

Lasersight Agree with you here. I don’t know anything about direct connections in the Ukrainian Govt to far right groups but these Azov lads obvs have connections. Who knows how deep that rabbit hole is. I’m sure the Russians know but its still no excuse, their own Nazi groups far outweigh that of Ukraine.
