Jules72 But I still want LT to justify his claim that the fucking Vietnam war was waged for the profit of the US weapons industry
The US was drawn into the war and all it did was benefit the MIC, as I said initially. I’ll break it down for you, Jules, if you want.
A.) Fighting Communism - Total failure. Collapse of Saigon. Full Communist control. Hundreds of thousands sent to labour camps for “re-education” or murdered. Americans chased out of their own Embassy.
B.) Benefit of the Arms Industry - Military spending ramped up after “Gulf of Tonkin” - proven to be a manipulation of OSINT by US intelligence - by upwards of 75%, increasing armament corporation profits to record numbers since 1945. (a good source - ‘Vietnam in Military Statistics: A History of the Indochina Wars’ by Michael Clodfelter). By 1975 the US had pumped 92 Billion into their pockets, dropping all of their unused bombs on neutral Laos when they could, I assume because they care so much about those people over there. Once the US got through 1970 it was over, no territory gained, the motivation for search & destroy? Body counts to send back to the hawks in washington whose friends in the industry kept churning out new bills for Nixon.
Who benefitted the most, the South Vietnamese or The Dow Chemical Company for example? Unless you want to dispute any of this, Jules, with a reasonable response?
