Yeah, you can find what makes you content, rather than informed, way too easily. Then there’s the complete apathy related to really knowing the truth about an issue, a version of the truth is easier, tacked on to the end of the order like a €1 Cheeseburger. I’m sure this epoch will be studied over as to when the machine really took control of people’s minds using software and applications, how it was harnessed to divide the masses and how political parties used it to take irreversible power. The idea that talking about Trump, his crimes, his incompetence or his childish pathetic behaviour somehow makes you “one of the opposite” or a “lefty” is fucking bizarre to me. Thats when you know someone really needs to sort themselves out and come back from the brink.

There is no real middle ground at times, I’ve said many times I don’t think he’s a good guy and I don’t agree with all he says or does, but that wouldn’t be enough not to be classed as maga to some folk these days. I mean I feel for anyone who buys a tesla now who isn’t politically minded, there’s good chance it will get vandalised. You get people to far gone on both sides of the political spectrum.

I don’t think you’re a dyed in the wool MAGA supporter at all, Funky. I think you’re poorly informed and/or naive.

I wouldn’t expect everyone to just automatically speak negatively about Trump because I know he has supporters and that’s their prerogative but don’t expect me or anyone else that understands exactly who he is to buy into the notion that he’s somehow misunderstood or that he’s some kind of world peace maker out to save Europe and the world from WW3. I would expect his “defenders” to do their due diligence and stop wasting everyone’s fucking time.

I think it’s possible to be a genuine Trump supporter, as in, he speaks for you on social matters or there’s something in his rhetoric that rings a bell or aligns with your beliefs. All 100% fine with me, everyone sees things differently in that sense but I would expect that supporter to feel embarrassed and appalled that he was a rapist and I’d expect them to call it out, instead of blindly defending him like he was their Uncle. That’s the type of behaviour I was talking about earlier. The cult rhetoric. You can never speak bad of the leader and if somebody else calls him out then they must be a lefty or a subscriber to Rachel Maddow. There are probably genuinely good people out there who voted for Trump for whatever reason and are horrified by his actions at present. I want to believe they exist rather than believe all of them are mindless fucking zombies.

Boys, I think we should give Trump a chance. Clearly 10 years of him in politics is not long enough to judge him accurately. He’ll do something good soon, I know that the fact that he’s been nothing but horrible, or downright evil all this time is not the real him.

If you aren’t all going to agree on anything, or try to share perspectives constructively, yet you’re spending hours of your week / mental energy on it largely insulting each other - exactly what is the point in going back for one more reply?

@LT42 we basically caused this in the 90s by agreeing not to expand NATO if Russia gave up east Germany and further east - and we went back on our promise making them feel very insecure about what comes next given our history in other parts of the world

Say what you want about Russia now but we and the wider west aren’t innocent and probably are mostly to blame for the reaction instead of a chance of building trust over time.

There’s more to it than that, but this was essentially the beginning of it after what Russia gave up / agreed with us.

As internet conversations go around potentially heated topics, I think this has been pretty civil for the most part. Either way, we’re all free to bow out and not participate whenever we want; I stay out of the footie thread because outside of international tournaments, I don’t really care and have nothing to add. This is no different.
