zackster Seems absolutely crazy to me that the Speaker can be just anyone, from outside the house?
I just assumed it was like the UK House of Commons, where the speaker is an elected representative and they usually settle on someone who is considered fairly neutral, who then resigns their party whip for the duration of their time as speaker.
