I’ll get the ball rolling by saying it’s utter guff.

Thought it was about beach holidays in the scousers’ favourite resort.

bosstrabs The sooner we get the Dee bridge the better! Or even reinstate the Moreton to Rhyl hovercraft service!

Smallman1 under no illusions how niche this is amongst this audience 😅
Still wouldn’t mind hearing Hannu’s opinion though.

Can’t all keep putting the Ed in lEDge like you @Smallman1

Not a fan. Will also skip the concert in Helsinki in 2024. 129 € for nosebleed tickets at a stadium. I’d rather watch on Nuggs at home after. I’ve also seen them 11 times live already. That said the 40th anniversary shows were amazing, watched them on Prime Video, but they’re not there anymore. But someone’s uploaded them to Youtube so no worries. And I will buy the CD, only one of theirs I don’t have is Lulu, and that I won’t ever buy.

This new single is the first time I think they’ve become a legacy act. Hardwired was actually a good album, and I liked Death Magnetic too. I guess it’s not bad they got to 60 years old before they went into basking on former glories.

      Homegrove I liked Death Magnetic

      Same.

If ‘Lux Aeterna’ is the lead single, I’m worried what the rest of the new album is going to be like. Will still give it a listen, but have zero expectations now. Just going to sound over-produced and lacking edge.

Sounds like Kill ’em All and Reload had a baby and it turned out just as you expected.

      Some nuggets of hope lads:

      1. Bands often don’t release the best track as the lead single. In fact, sometimes they make downright terrible choices on which track should be the lead single.
      2. You can always throw a denim jacket with a back patch in the bin and for the rest of the day not be a total looser as you walk around.

Had absolutely no idea they had new material out – they look like they are touring Europe early summer next year so heres hoping for Glastonbury

They headlined a few years ago which means they won’t play there again anytime soon thank god.

Harsh reminder that we’re all old and will die soon. The “new” bass player has been in the band for 20 years now.

Homegrove as good as Rob is, I still wish Jason had never left the band. Always thought he gave them a darker edge. Quite liked the EP he put out as Newsted a while back.

ScottBailey eh, he seems to be happy living a good life now with his Metallica-millions, and is proud of his time with the band, instead of bitter like some. He even did an unboxing video for Metallica’s official social media when the Black Album-reissue came out a year and half ago. He would’ve have killed himself if he hadn’t left before the Some Kind of Monster-years.

He was an absolute force live though, and a really cool dude. I met him twice in the 90s in Meet & Greets.

From about 3.55mins in is very telling lol. Lars telling Jason to shut it after he’d just joined..

Really hoping they play Glasnost – they are touring Europe at the time I don’t think its out of the question

BlainSA I actually really liked it, because it sounded like something off Reload. Have not liked the two other new singles.

Homegrove It’s got one riff I thought was ok. The solo is a waste of time.

Have you heard the HammetT solo stuff? Cringed at some of the stuff I heard harking back to the old days with practically the same licks.

This from a Metallica forum about sums things up for me: -

“If these last 3 songs were by some random band popping up in my YouTube feed being promoted by Napalm Records, I’d probably listen once and forget about them”

Agreed. Their new acoustic covers of Killing Me by UFO and Thin Lizzy - borderline are awesome though. They should do more of these. Like Metallica Unplugged.

                Board invasion anyone?

I listened through the new album without being on my phone. It didn’t make me angry, or worse, sad, which I guess is OK considering they’re 60. Shall listen again in the evening with a glass of whiskey, and loud. Let’s see if goes from “ok” to “actually pretty good.” For the record, I liked Hardwired and Death Magnetic, have not listened to Saint Anger since 2003.

Homegrove on a second, more focused listen I upgraded the new album from “not bad” to “I might actually want to hear some of these live instead of For Whom the Bell Tolls. Again.”
