On the hunt for some good sports reading.

Here are probably the best sports books I’ve read, so people can avoid recommending them, and also congratulate me on my great taste:

Journeyman: One Man’s Odyssey Through the Lower Leagues (prob my favourite of the lot..strong recommend)

Steve Claridge’s book is worth reading.

Yeah, really enjoyed that one. I love the fact that he talks about his dream being to score a winner in a major cup final. When he did it a year or so later, it was pretty incredible.

Same thing with Geraint Thomas (World of Cycling According to G). He talks about wearing yellow, what it must be like to win on Alp d’Huez on the tour and winning the whole thing - he did all of it later. I read that one after he won it - made it a strong read.

I enjoyed Bill Simmons’ “The Book of Basketball”. Easy read. The sort of thing you could just pick up from time to time; there’s no real narrative or story to follow - just fun and interesting ways of framing the game.

David Haberstram is the legend for books on sports. “Playing For Keeps” about Michael Jordan is excellent.

Also really enjoyed “Tiger”, the Tiger Woods biography. That dude is fucking weird.

I read Dennis Wise’s autobiography a few years ago.

The font was so big it took me about 8 minutes.

Enjoyed Cantona: The Rebel Who Would Be King.

Agassi’s Open was a good read too, talked about how he did meth and got away with it while he was playing for that extra masala.

One of the best books I’ve read. Some story.
