alistair Usyk is elite now is he? Lol. Would ya stop. You don’t know much about boxing either if you think Tyson Fury is an elite level boxer. Mayweather, Canelo, Barrera, Arguello, Cesar Chavez, Jones Jr, Tyson, Lewis, are examples of elite boxers, its nothing to do with their records either, we’ve seen how those can be padded (See Wilder for exhibit A), its their ability to not get hit and do damage, to properly be able to mix it, to punch properly with finesse or power using proper technique, how to set up attacks, knowing when to pressure, when to relax but its all focused around how to punch, every coach will tell you that, everything is built around that principle, the ring craft follows. You see none of that with Fury, technically he’s atrocious, zero power, no jab, combinations worthy of complete novices, horrible on the inside, dances and moves like he’s performing boxing rather than actually boxing. Even the last fight with Wilder was pathetic at times, you can’t take the win away from him of course but watch the fight again, its a lesson in how not to punch, he was like a drunk in the street at times. He’s a clubber not a puncher. Wilder has one punch in him, just look at the absolute state of him after 3 rounds. Hes not worthy of shouting about even if you beat him. Go down to the Lamb & Flag of a Saturday night and bang out some fella in the carpark, tell the whole world about it. Same thing.
There are many in the sport, trainers/coaches, who say these things privately. The one thing Fury excels in is selling fights to people who don’t know better and getting fans on board because of his story. Which is why he has the appropriate reputation of being a clown imo. He’s of his era which is really poor, filled with half arse fighters and greedy conmen promoters. Saying he’s elite is absolute nonsense but expected out of casual fans. Elite boxers are consumed by their craft. Fury is not that at all, there’s rumours that he missed training in Miami because he was on the session, prob why this fight has been put back. The covid excuse may be real but its not the primary reason I reckon. I heard the whole camp was put back weeks because he doesn’t take it seriously. He briefly mentioned it himself in a recent interview about his social life in Miami. A good friend of mine is an event manager at the Fontainebleau and saw him with a shady entourage on many nights, similar to the type of people McGregor hangs about with. Lets just say cocktails aren’t their only fuel. His previous trainer (Davison) said as much too, that its mostly an act - uncommitted in training, easily distracted by outside influences, struggles to stick to diets, doesn’t like to be told what to do when it comes to those regimes. Hes not elite for countless reasons. Neither is Wilder. Its 2 circus clowns conning purists, or at least trying. It’ll be entertaining no question but lets be fuckin real here and call a spade a spade. Is this boxing or WWE?
I’m glad Usyk is about because the division needed new life, maybe he’ll go on to do great things, there are lots of caveats in boxing of course, sometimes out of the boxers hands, so we’ll see. If Wilder catches Fury with a wild haymaker and finishes him I’ll bet any money he’ll retire but maybe return for a big pay day against Joshua. Most would like to see that but not for the quality of boxing, purely for the entertainment.
