Does any website for buying music have a good search? iTunes usually works, but I only shop there out of absolute necessity because they don’t offer lossless-files. Bandcamp is really bad, usually works if you google artist + song + bandcamp.

Homegrove The search function on Beatport was fine once the search had completed. The issue was it took way too long and would often crash or sign me out.
The search on Bandcamp is as bad as it gets but as you say the best way is thru Google.

I’m not crazy about the new Beatport UI. They’ve lumped the artists names under track titles and theres no ‘sort by’ in the carts anymore. At least the navigation speed has been fixed.

They still have that fuckin annoying ‘add to queue’ button next to the play button, which pops up and gets in the way of the play button, should you even glance at it. Not keen on the label and remixer being lumped together either.

Search looks better, with the old one you had to be letter perfect to get a result.

Pages and tracks are taking forever to load at the moment, hope that gets boxed off asap.

So i can see everying i’ve ever bought now. Great stuff, loads of good tunes i’ve lost over the years. But i can’t re-download them? Do you need a streaming account for this?

mono-stereo you can redownload them if you pay for the Beatport-streaming. 9,99 € a month being the cheapest choice, but that includes the re-download option. I think that’s a decent one time charge for your own history there. Of course you can’t re-download tracks that are no longer available because label’s folded or something. I’ve had a few of those when trying to upgrade some track from mp3 to aiff.

Hope this is the appropriate thread to ask a couple of questions, kind of beatport related

Where and how are the board djs listening to their new music? I’ve noticed that I tend to listen to a load of DJ sets and then every few weeks purchase tracks from those sets on beat port I.e. I’m not finding any new music myself.

On beatport itself you can obviously only listen to a snippet of each track, so finding new music that way is probably a non starter.

Also, what credible alternatives are there to beatport? I find bandcamp difficult to navigate and find stuff.

gcw When searching for a track on Bandcamp its best to do a google search with the artist name and track name.

On Juno Download you can listen to snippets of the entire track.

Follow labels and artists on Bandcamp. You can get mail alerts for releases then.

There’s a ‘you might like’ section at the bottom of each page that will suggest other tunes.

I used to hate bandcamp interface, it now much prefer digging through labels etc on there.

Also get to listen to all track without paying a subscription like Beatport.

Once you build a profile of labels and artists it’s much easier to find good stuff.

Sounds like you’re at the lower end of the curve where I was about a year or so ago, gets better over time as you build your own specific catchment.

gcw if i find somthing i like on beatport i ususally listen to the full version on youtube, just to make sure it’s not shit.

gcw listen to music on SoundCloud. Follow loads of labels and artists and then check your feed every day. Also go on to the recommended tunes column on the right against each track you like as you’ll find other tracks that way. Ask for IDs on mixes for tracks you like. Then source the tracks through bandcamp and beatport. They are the end part of the process, not the beginning imo. I can’t imagine trawling through beatport charts for new music. Horrific way to do it imo
