RIP Jimmy Corkhill. Gone to the big cul de sac in the sky.
Phil-McRackin Gone to the big cul de sac in the sky.

Sticky Vicky brown bread too -
Along_the_Wire âIn 2003, Sullivan won the British Soap Award for outstanding achievement for his role as Jimmy in the Mersey TV soap, having played the role for 17 years.â
High praise indeed
Shane McGowan died. My god, he hung on, fair fucks.
I donât thinks itâs possible to play Fairytale of New York any more than it is already right now

Again?
RIP Alistair Darling. Came across as a good egg and was a pretty steady hand during the GFC.
Former chancellor Alistair Darling as well today. The grim reaper has been busy!
Tory cunts can all die as far as Iâm concerned.
Note: Hugo, this is a joke.

They all will eventually.
Note: Hugo, this is a FACT (I know you are fond of those)
Along_the_Wire Iâd like to see them all in jail for a long time, then eventually dead.
Along_the_Wire Is the joke that Darling was Chancellor under a labour Government?
Fairytale of New York aside I donât think I could name you another Pogues song.
Take it they were fucking awful?
vinnyt77 I think I was a little quick of the draw and factually incorrect, but my point still stands.

Itâs almost impressive that Shane MacGowan made it to 65.
The world is a better place without Kissinger, so no real loss there.
Homegrove Thereâs that tune they did with that Irish folk band. What the hell are you talking about?!
Along_the_Wire Thereâs that tune they did with that Irish folk band.
They did a track with The Chieftains?
Fair play.
Kirsty McColl > Shane McGowan x 10
alistair I donât know a single one of her own songs!
Along_the_Wire worth giving her Essentials a listen. Morrissey and Marr were big fans
Homegrove theyâre certainly not a big thing outside the emerald islands.
There is literally no limit to hannuâs knowledge of goings on around our wide and varied planet and beyond. The man is a walking encyclopaedia Britannica box setâŚ
His ability to flit from the minutiae of Palestinian political debate to the chart position of every single shane magowan song ever is an absolute joy to behold!

I was a big fan of The Pogues when I was 16. Bizarrely Iâve actually met Shane McGowan. I was 16 years old, at the Apocalypse club in Londonâs Astoria in 1987, he was in there with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin. I didnât know who Robert Plant was at the time. Me and my friend spent a few hours talking to Shane and Robert Plant. They were both a great laugh. Most people donât know Shane MacGowan was also a great illustrator. He drew loads of pictures on the back of some flyers and signed them. Unfortunately, they were in the nostalgia box that somebody in my family threw out. Shane was funny, wearing what looked like a pair of womenâs ballet shoes, when he laughed, he made a hissing sound because his teeth were so rotten. They threw him and Robert Plant out of the Astoria club because Shane was balancing a bottle of whiskey on his forehead, that he smuggled into the club. He really was a poet of the 20th century Rest in peace. I always remember this interview with Joe Strummer where he talks about the Pogues. Joe Strummer was also a fellow runner, so cool in my book [

Along_the_Wire A New England.
A Billy âright onâ Bragg song.
Much as I liked the Poguesâ first two albums when I actually saw them live they were appalling, however, this was probably due to Shaneâs drinking. I guess they were like Sasha, they were either terrible or fucking amazing depending on Shaneâs state. I worked with a band that supported them in the early 90âs and they said the same thing. I suppose their era was just before the acid house explosion then everything changed.
I first heard them in 1985, Yorkshire TV used to occasionally do all-night music video documentaries on the history of music videos (this was before MTV and if you liked a track the only time you would hear it was if it popped up on the radio, or you bought the record). I used to stay up and record them on VHS. After a while of watching them back you used to forward to the videos that you liked. I must have forwarded past the Pogues video loads of times, then it caught my eye because the people play pool with eyeballs, they captured that folk music with that punk element

Dan Theyâre all right on - love Billy Bragg mind.
Homegrove everyone thinks theyâre Irish on the east coast. Loosers
Benjamin Zephaniah - brain tumour, 65. Sad, only came across him on Question Time, but he was brilliant every time. Gone to the Dub Poetry Corner in the sky.
Along_the_Wire âŚsaw him speak at a festival a year or so ago, really inspirational fella whoâd led a mad life. Very sad.
