This is true. You’re right: it is used all over the world and has done for centuries. I was listening to a guest on Russell Brand’s Under the Skin podcast recently who was talking about the history of populism. He was basically saying that it was a concept originally used in the US by the Left that was eventually adopted as a strategy by the Right and ultimately became such a divisive tool, that it led to a constitutional change that prohibited more than two-parties running for office. The US people on the board would be able to a better job than I have of explaining it (and I probably need to go back and listen again) but it goes to your point.
I have been thinking about going down a rabbit hole on political messaging and propaganda. I’ll take any recommendations that people might have on it. I keep intending to read “Age of Propaganda” by Pratkanis & Aronson.
