Grant McKay (June 2020, Soundcloud)

Some pretty good tunes in a seemingly random order apparently mixed by a six year old trying out his new decks.

Could have been a lot better. Overall, very disappointing.

4/10

    Joking apart mate,

you’ve got 12 minutes of beatless birdsong and chilled breaks at the start, which is really nice……it doesn’t exactly flow into the next track which is just a bare drumline. That clashed badly for me. And that last song should be somewhere nearer the start.

You need to consider the general flow of the mix a lot more imo.

C_J I don’t know what you want me to say? I’ve just put a mix together, I’m pleased with it. It flows to me.

      looking forward to hearing yours.

I enjoyed it, Grant. Some top top tunage. Look forward to the next one.

Nice tunes Grant.I also enjoyed it.

Lol. You took that well i thought, mate!

Just about to start cleaning so this is going on the headphones. Will report back when done. Good on you. Getting mixes out for public critique takes a bit of bottle.

Along_the_Wire This drifting a few tenths off a beat thing…..i’m getting it on the RX2 - any idea how to stop it? I will have a listen - sure its great!

baggers44 it happened a lot on this mix - I’m getting the XZ in part because of it. Everything is nicely beat-matched and by the time you bring it in, it’s off - I can sometimes correct it, sometimes not. I won’t be mentioning it when I sell it.

Along_the_Wire me neither - My XZ is delayed until the end of this month …..I’ll believe it when I see it!

Some excellent stuff on there mate! Erdi irmak - after all, is a brilliant tune.

On this drifting thing, is it a specific issue with the rx2?

I’m always having to nudge when I’m mixing. I put it down to me being a tenth or a few hundredths out on my beat matching, rather than a hardware, or software issue.

Matt Cheers Matt! Do you use the RX2? Sometimes there’s no drift, others can be pretty bad and it’s really fucks me off - especially when you think you’ve got thinks perfect before you bring the track in.

Along_the_Wire nah mate, I use the ddj rx, controller.

Can’t say I’ve really noticed anything that I’d put down to anything other than my beat matching not being exact (which it never is).

I’ve noticed the same thing with Serato in the DDJ-SX2. Unfortunately I can’t adjust the pitch range on it below +/- 8 either

I’ve noticed the drift on my decks seems to get progressively worse the more I drink, which is completely baffling frankly.

A bad workman always blames his tools.

Funny coincidence, this is the second new mix that starts with The Grid I’ve heard this week.

Ed needs to give some marketing lessons out. Everyone’s “I’ve done a mix, it’s a bit shit, I couldn’t be bothered re-recording because I had a great time making it and fuck you”. It’s hardly selling me on the download.

HopHead I’m just flagging it mate, I’m not selling it. I’m mainly doing it for me and my mates - they’re far less of a tough crowd and don’t notice any of the fuck ups. Which is nice.
