  • Love Record Stores Day

Started at 9am this morning online. Some great records released in this batch - contacted my local shop who know me quite well and they said they couldn’t hold anything back, but if I got there at 8:45, they’d take my list and sell to me at the store and take them off-line. The fucking online thing went early to help cope with demand and most of the stuff I wanted had sold out. What a fucking kick in the plums that was. Fair few releases delayed and I’ve got this guaranteed mind.

Anyone else have a nightmare or even remotely care?

The only place left to buy vinyl in home town is HMV and they don’t sell the stuff I like.

Record Store Day doesn’t seem to be what it was. I couldn’t go on the day, but just bought all the stuff I actually wanted in the shop I normally go to. Result not having to queue and and involve yourself in the bun fight. Demos for Suede’s first album on clear vinyl is a peach.

    Have spent enough time in busy record stores trying to get my hands on elusive cuts… Saturday mornings at 3Beat spring to mind. Couldn’t be fucked with it these days. Far better to take a day off, go mid week when there’s no events on, take your time, talk to the staff, have a pint before and afterwards, make a nice day of it.

      Glad to see the back of Buying/playing/storing vinyl. Pain in the ass.

      Bring on National FLAC Day.

        Dan used to love seeing the DJ’s walking through the bar area at Turnmills with their small entourage carrying their record boxes into the booth.

          Amps went there today a week or so after the event - amazed to find so much good stuff left. Picked up Selected Ambient Works and the new EBTG album too.

              I went along to my local record store in Chelmsford on record store day. They make a proper day of it, getting loads of DJs in, had a local street food place outside doing food, then a some live music at a venue a few doors down. This year they had Freestylers and DJ Bailey instore. Last year Gilles Peterson did his radio show from the store.

              I don’t buy any vinyl but a great few hours looking about.

              There were loads of people queuing at 7am to get in the store as soon as it opened, so it’s really popular. Which is good

                Amps 3Beat was a cracking record shop. Folks used to rave about Plastic Fantastic, but 3Beat and Massive were much better for me…

Lots of arguments about where was best, who was buying, blah blah blah, I always think London shops can be a little bit London centric, which is understandable. I liked Plastic though on the occasions I went. Eastern Block’s tastes were always a little bit to techno for me at the time. Massive were boss on the breaks / prog stuff.

                          Millsy Correct, I’ve mentioned it before but I once saw them shift 20 odd copies of Hybrid - Altitude before it had finished it’s first play over the shop sound system.
