Who do you think are overrated?

The darlings of the critics but inside you’re thinking ’they’re absolute shite.'

Here’s two to kick things off -

R.E.M.

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.

Rubbish.

Saw REM on their Monster Tour. They are a superb live act, and while a lot of their prolific output was shite they do have at least one genuine classic album in their canon: Document (arguably a few others too).

    Doves - turgid shite.

This could be a log thread!

bosstrabs Document is a superb album - REM were ruined my middle-class cunts using them as evidence they loved indie music at dinner parties. REM are absolutely fucking brilliant - went to shit a bit after Automatic for the People in my view, but they’d done their jobs by then.

The Doves are terrific too and brilliant live. The masters of the middle eight break an all.

Gonna put Document on now for a blast. Not listened to it for about 10 years, brilliant album.

All I can remember of REM was shiny happy people being played every time I went to a student club night in my first year at uni… dreadful

bosstrabs Exhuming McCarthy, lightnin Hopkins, King of the Birds, Finest Worksong - fucking amazing tunes. It’s famous for End of the World and The One I Love too, which is ridiculous.

Any band Dave starts a thread about.

the eagles are easily the worst band to ever sell a record.

Probably doesn’t fit under overrated but rather a personal distaste, but I cannot do Thom Yorke’s voice so fully out on Radiohead.

But strictly overrated: U2. Bono is a self-absorbed twat who almost certainly repeats what world leaders say, but in a reverential whisper, when he meets them.

I was brought listening to Pink Floyd & The Beatles. I still listen to Pink Floyd now.
I’ll add Oasis & Blur as I just don’t get them.

U2 are top of the tree here. Remember when they launched an album and it automatically when into everyone’s iTunes? Talk about getting it all wrong.
