  • Rekordbox 7 Thread (for DJs)

Rekordbox has been rebuilt from the ground up - using around half the cpu / memory resources and (finally) a native version for Apple Mac so it feels nice and snappy. Plus some cool AI features.

Rekordbox website has been overwhelmed since 8am so I’ve stuck the files on my G Drive. Will replace links with rekordbox site once they fix the site.

In terms of updates:

  1. They’ve rebuilt it from the ground up. Its much faster/snappier. Its especially better on Mac as that version felt cumbersome / clunky. Its now built in ‘native apple’ code. Whatever that means, apple macs like it. Windows will be faster than RB6 too. Alphatheta say it uses around half the CPU / memory resources the old version used to.

  2. It’ll throw down automatic Hot Cues at key points in the track (ABCD) so if you open an analysed track and hit B you can see the loudest point of the track after the first breakdown. I used to do this manually to help me choose tracks on the fly in headphones so will save me time.

  3. AI gets involved. If you are connected at home to Beatport Link, you can ask it to find tracks similar to the vibe/style of the one you are playing. You will hit upon artist/labels you haven’t thought of before so I’m looking forward to this the most.

  4. The preferences menu has an entirely new redesign

  5. Coloured logo icons down the side.

  6. Generally feels cleaner / tidier on the screen

  7. Stems will get an update soon to match those on other platforms as rekordbox has been the worst for this - currently its still not good but I don’t even use it and neither do most in the prog scene.

  8. Improved waveform rendering (less graphics intensive for older laptops)

  9. Other little improvements to make it run smoother

I like where its going, RB 4 5 and 6 never felt smooth on Mac but the new features are handy.

I stopped updating around 6.6.1 as I kept getting issues with it

Will wait till the rush has stopped to grab this

I upgraded and checked everything for the next Sad Boys-gig on Saturday where we play with Rekordbox DJ from Tidal. Could not get the XDJs connected. After trying everything from re-installing all the drivers and so forth checked my subscription (XDJ700s are not unlock-devices) and found out I’d subscribed to Free+cloud instead of core. 🤦‍♂️

Now it works.

The export-side was a pain in the ass, had to export everything on my home USB again. Gig wise I always export the playlists fresh before the gig on a freshly cleaned flashdrives, so I always have to make time for that. It’s so fucking slow still.

Modern DJing sounds like great craic. 😐

I like the Sven Vath approach, a big bag of fuck off techno, 2 decks and a mixer.

Was at Amnesia a couple of years ago, he was playing.

I had to take some timeout to pull myself together, so sat and watched him. He was enjoying chatting with his mates/hangers on, but when it came to the end of a record he’d choose a new one from his bag, put it on, queue it up, beat match it, mix it, put the old record back in his bag - all done in less than a minute. Then he’d carry on partying.

        Proper deck wizard.

Ha true. I’m sure we’ve all seen enough ‘big name’ DJs play vinyl badly, though. It was great to see a DJ stick to their roots.

Can you imagine if Jaded Clubbers took over Amnesia.

It would take 8hrs to get all the tech lined up only for the latest Jobe release to come out the speakers.

Trisco blaring out the system as the sun comes through the roof. You’d love it.

              Now we’re talking!

At least there was a barrier to entry with decks. Without the sync button or waveform display some of these modern djs would be fucked.

mono-stereo I don’t need the sync button, but the waveform comes in handy.

Accessibility is a good thing, more people getting involved makes it better

Well that depends on your idea of better. If that means you get a load of performative instagram DJs waving their arms about like cunts without worrying about musicality, then yeah.

The same can be said about producers using presets. You just end up with more shite to wade through.

I found the USB export painfully slow this time - but it didn’t do that in the Beta testing.

An hour ago I found out why, and the fix.

Some of what this guy does is handy as fuck - he’s worth a follow and developed some non subscription based tools to manage databases across different brands https://www.atgr.nl/ (Mac only).
