Delighted for Root. Suspect/hope that’ll free him up for the remainder of the series.

Watching England is never dull at the moment, huh? All told, I think 325-9 is a balanced outcome for day 1. England will be happy they’ve made a half decent total on a pitch that seems to be doing a bit, and Australia will be happy they look like keeping England to a little over 4 an over, and likely total sub 350.

This one might even hit the heady heights of a 4th day…
