It was fairly similar for the Indians in their first innings tho tbf. Vaughan was on about trying Malan again and I have to agree with him - probably drop Sibley then shift Bairstow up the order.

Ashes might be a horror show if it goes ahead - can we postpone?

Mad_Cyril Sibley: the thing is that given his scoring rate he has to bat for hours every innings to be remotely effective as a foil to someone else and his defence is not good enough for that. the bowlers love him as he puts no pressure on them. he could at least try playing tip and run a bit more and work the ball on the off side - its not a high level skill and would be one way to progress. the way he got out yesterday fucked his whole method - that is the one shot he cannot be playing if he has to bat for 6 hours for 50 to justify his place in the team. head has gone - get literally anyone else in - i mean jason roy/hales will occasionally blast 80 in a session which has got to be better than this at least until a proper opener turns up.

I would stick Hameed back in as opener for at least 2 of these Indian tests, with a view of getting him on the plane afterwards. Mo Ali opened once too, although he really can play anywhere, so he is maybe an option if we don’t need him much for bowling…. oh…
