Cankles-McJeggings Along_the_Wire I read an article a bit back when Warne died about leg spinners being a dying trade and they struggle getting kids at grass roots to show interest nowadays. Warny kept it alive and caused a resurgence but now that generation is fading out and no one is there to carry the torch they are losing hope. Probably the same in blighty too?
Mad_Cyril Cankles-McJeggings Probably the same in blighty too? It’s always been that way, isn’t really a new thing. Leg spinners are rare creatures as it’s a hard trade and also difficult for a captain to balance in terms of priorities.
vinnyt77 Cankles-McJeggings Probably the same in blighty too? England have consistently struggled to produce test quality spin bowlers. I think the last potentially ‘match-winning’ spinner I can remember was Swann, but even his average and strike rate are higher than ideal. Before him? Fuck nows. Derek Underwood!?
vinnyt77 Cankles-McJeggings Tufnel? I was chatting to him (KLANG) in St Lucia a year ago about his career. Reminded me that he actually only took c. 120 test wickets, and that they came expensively (average of nearly 40) and slowly (strike rate over 90).
Along_the_Wire alistair those last two Root wickets give a whiff of hope, but this lost. The Aussies would’ve destroyed us today in that weather if we were batting.
baggers44 Along_the_Wire correct . and wtf is up with Robinson dobbing it down at 78 mph.? they look a bit underpowered and playing with no intensity in the field. No balls, slapdash fielding …injured players taking the field….rubbish.
rhouses Cummins would have really put England on the back foot if he declared with 10 overs to go on Day 1. Should have brought Steve Smith in and put him out field.
Mad_Cyril baggers44 correct . and wtf is up with Robinson dobbing it down at 78 mph.? He’s a fucking joke for Test Match cricket, proper trundler. I initially thought it was fitness but clearly technique. We’ll have people bowling under-arm next
