Been watching some of the reporting on this and there have been a hell of a lot of really good verbal histories from the veterans this year. Some have been incredibly emotional.

Possibly more poignant as there are so few veterans left now?

BBC in particular have done a really good job in some parts and deserve credit.

Well worth watching. Will post any I can get my hands on here.

Anyone have family who were involved?

I went there in 93 as a school kid. I had no idea what the significance of it all was.

I feel strangely emotional listening to it all today. It was clearly utterly horrific. And yet so necessary

I also went on a school trip back in 82/3. I don’t think it had any effect on all of us who went. But this week - especially today I almost came to tears listening on the radio to some of the stories that were told. It all started on Sunday while watching antiques roadshow. They had old boy who landed on the beach in 6″ of water and said all he was worried about was his wet socks. He then said that some the landing craft opened their doors to early. Which meant some stepped off in 12ft of water and didn’t stand a chance due to all the kit they were wearing.

It was an absolute meat grinder. Watching Saving Private Ryan I wonder how anyone survived.

Homegrove But remember for many that was just the start. I watched band of brothers for the first time this year. Does rather bring it home.

My gran (RIP 2020 aged 98) was in the dutch resistance. Met my granddad when he came over and liberated them (he was not d-day though).

Was the same watching TV interviews last night and this morning.

Ended up recording the 09:30 ceremony so I can watch in peace - and not worry about blubbing!!
