These ID’s will be open to fraud and all sorts just like a passport, plenty of hackers will find a way, no guarantee it will stop any illegal working and consider the cost to implement, the age verification all you needed was a vpn such a waste of money aswell. Starmer wont deport criminals or illegals anyway that is clear. Rwanda didn’t work how will this scare them of coming here.

I was looking back on previous attempts to introduce ID cards, and every time it has been scrapped. When plans were halted in 2010, there was a separate bill for the Biometric Passport, which was designed to bolster immigration checks. I think that was within the context of counter terrorism.

In this latest iteration of it, you have got Starmer wheeling it out directly after a surge in support for Reform and anti-immigration nonsense. Hardly seems like a firm basis for an earnest introduction of something that is expensive, divisive and probably just political posturing.

The ID card thing just smacks of the common government ploy of using a popular reason as an excuse to try and justify the introduction of an unpopular and not particularly related policy. Wouldn’t most illegal immigrants be doing cash in hand jobs anyway? In which case how will digital ID cards make any difference to their employability and ability to operate?

Covid passports and covid lockdowns should be enough warning about the risks such policies can pose to a free and fair society. Given Labour’s socialist leanings it could be a first step to China-aping social credit score type policies.
