Labour helped vote brexit through ffs. Weak response this time LT maybe finances and the economy isnt you’re strong point but its a friday evening ill give you a pass.
They voted it through to prevent a no deal, if you recall. Boris didn’t negotiate the Withdrawal Agreement, on the assumption that he would seek to renege on it later. When it became apparent just how bad the deal was, the populace were told that it wasn’t the ‘right kind of Brexit’, even though they ratified it on the terms they put forward as part of the Withdrawal. Had Labour not supported it, I suspect the right-wing would have blamed Labour for doing so, and the inevitable fallout of a ‘no deal’. Essentially, that was a strategic move because it meant that the Tories had to wear Brexit and stumble through the remaining time in power maintaining that it was a brilliant idea. It also meant that Labour didn’t reanimate all the swivel-eyed Brexit loons and those who were conveniently told that “they didn’t want to talk about Brexit any more”.
Others have said it already, but after 14.5 years in power, the Tories decimated the country to further line the pockets of the reach. Their shit sandwich of a legacy is what Labour were left with. To undo, or even begin to salvage the devastation wrought by the Tories, it won’t happen in short order. To blame Starmer is to overlook the depth of the problem inherited.
Consider that the populist right wing media is so prevalent in downplaying any attempt that the Government makes that is anything less than a complete 180 degree turn to be a failure. The right wing media even played that card immediately before they came to power.
The effect of the narrative is to feed the empty minds of the dim-witted, and ostensibly to propel the electorate toward greater support for actual authoritarians who would see you as pond scum, and actively attempt to make you poorer, erode your employment rights and funnel money towards the ultra wealthy, and support kleptocrats and dictators.
