  • First Vinyl Record ever bought.

SM001 First single bought from Abbey Discs in Dublin.

Never forget me and my mate going halves on buying F.A.C.T in Tor Records, Glastonbury. We got it home and were not happy, because all we’d heard Carl Cox play was Fantazia and Dreamscape gigs. But remember hearing ‘Orange Theme’ and thinking “Thiss is something different! I like this a lot!”. Rest was history…

Dubman The guy I bought my decks from also sold me two crates of records. Enough to learn on without going completely insane listening to the same tracks back to back for months.

ScottBailey A mates older brother recorded the CD onto tape for me and I played them to death. FACT and the first Renaissance mix. Like you said the rest is history.

Dinosaur Jr.'s Fossils on clear red vinyl from Probe in Liverpool (Button St), I was 13, and already had a feeling I was going to be spending a lot of time and money in record shops.

    Mainly bought for this banger:

1st vinyl = Wombling Songs by The Wombles. NOT Remember You’re a Womble. Wombling Songs was far superior. Obvs.

1st vinyl as a deck owner/ adult was the Junior Vasquez remix of Wavespeech.

vinnyt77 Junior Vasquez remix of Wavespeech.

        💪

remember some boss ‘DJ’ used it on one of their Mixpub mixes. Great tune, the less said about the mix the better 😂

ScottBailey My mate was on with Coxy in Germany and Coxy signed his copy of F.A.C.T. It’s framed in his studio.

Same here. I was that young lad who used to take a carrier bag of 7″ records to all the kids parties on my estate. I had of those record players where you could stack 3 or 4 records on top of each other.

I think mine was The Anfield Rap

Oh God, I think it was ELO. I don’t have it any more. It was a terrible thing to lose.

baggers44 First album was Kate Bush - The Kick Inside. Which still sounds ethereal.

            First album I bought?

            The Merciless World of Trance.

Dubman I never quite did that. I had a bunch of early electro tapes in primary school, but once I started skating at 10yo I always hung around with older kids and as such just followed their musical lead. Not sure if it was a good or bad thing looking back at some of the purchases! 🤣

Used to have all those street sounds electro tapes plus loads of hip-hop and reggae soundclash tapes I then took my whole tape collection down the tip when I moved out from home.

The original question didn’t ask for “first respectable vinyl record ever bought”, just “first vinyl record ever bought”.

The second part of your post is redundant and a desperate attempt to save face.

You bought The Wombles. That’s it.

Dubman Tapes are a tricky one, they tend to warp easily and become unlistenable if they’re not used regularly. Nice to have the box n cover for a bit of nostalgia, but you’d need to rip them to keep the music. I backed all my Cream stuff up when I realised some of the tapes were on the fritz within a year or two of being sat still.

The Greece Soundtrack my end. Got it for my 9th birthday.

My mum used to run a pub with a jukebox so had access to untold vinyl when they got replaced - Adam and the Ants, Queen, The Specials, 10cc, Elvis Costello and Status Quo stand out in my memory.

The only tapes I have now are old dj mixes I don’e in the late 90’s early 00’s can’t even play them as I don’t own a tape deck anymore

James Bonds Greatest Hits when I was 9 or 10. All the themes tunes + a few extras up to For Your Eyes On!y. Fucking loved it.

baggers44 I see what you did. Lol.

Out of the Blue is a belter.

first single was this, it was only about 49p. From Music Market in Oxford

Glen, its a pleasure to see you posting again. My first vinyl was Enola Gay, given to me by an Auntie. I absolutely loved how it sounded and I tormented the Grandad by asking him to play it on a loop for hours.

LT42 Love OMD… Architecture and Morality is a great album.

LT42 I loved the ‘Organisation’ album. The opening track ‘The Misunderstanding’ is one of my all time favourites by any band ever. So atmospheric. So good

                      First I bought - Prince’s batman LP.

First bought for me - the frog chorus, 7 inch.

Bedrock - Emerald, the one with the Charlie may remix.

LT42 I have @Smallman1 style family connection klang to OMD, and was brought up on it. Great choice of a first slab.

Dubman Have had a separates tape deck safely packaged away in the loft for ‘emergencies’ and ‘just in case’ moments for the past 15 years or so… and have never needed it! 😆

I got rid of mine for some reason. I should buy a used one. My only problem is that my graphic equalizer goes through my tape channel on my amp.

Amps My Wife’s mate sang on OMD’s later albums and said they’re both top lads.

                            Dan Correct.

I still regularly drive past the phone box from Red Frame/White Light.
