Hursty difficult to measure how much you hate him Derm as this sort of comment is standard fair for most people šŸ˜†

šŸ˜† True

Wally Epic games (makers of Fortnite) took Apple to court over the 30% take and ā€˜closed garden’ monopoly nature of iPhones recently and…<drumroll>….. got their ass handed to them.

That’s not entirely true - they won on one point which was:

"In the original ruling, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers said that Apple would be prohibited from restricting developers from including ā€œin their apps and their metadata buttons, external links, or other calls to action that direct customers to purchasing mechanisms,ā€ paving the way for alternate payment options that do not require Apple to use the in-app purchase system."

https://www.macrumors.com/2021/12/08/apple-wins-epic-appeal-no-app-store-changes-yet/

This should enable app developers to circumvent Apple’s 30% cut by offering the app for free in the app store but making the key features available to purchase in-app via alternative payment methods.

It’s not yet been implemented as Apple have filed an appeal, but it seems unlikely to be overturned.

This isn’t to say that the entire legal battle may have been worth it for Epic Games mind, but that developers in general seem likely to benefit from this change once it’s introduced.

Given this, it actually seems a bit odd timing by Musk to publicly rage about this given in the near future Apple could be forced to enable developers to get around it. It could just be that he’s just publicly calling out Apple’s monopolistic practices now as a PR move in retaliation for Apple threatening to pull advertising off twitter, as opposed to him actually being prepared to stage a legal battle.

It does not seem immediately obvious what a legal battle undertaken by Musk or twitter would add or change which hasn’t already been gone through by Epic Games?! So unless he’s somehow found some entirely new insight in to the case it doesn’t seem an obvious move.

Wally If Apple really are warning them to stop the hate speech, I’d listen. Apple could knock up a version of twitter faster and better than Musk could knock up a Tesla phone.

But how many people would use a version of twitter only populated by people with iPhones?!

Also, who the fuck are Apple to define what is ā€œhate speechā€?

zackster This is probably going to end well

Wally

So another storm in a teacup:

"After touring Apple’s Cupertino campus in California, Mr Musk tweeted on Wednesday night that chief executive Tim Cook personally reassured him Twitter would stay on the App Store.

He said: ā€œAmong other things, we resolved the misunderstanding about Twitter potentially being removed from the App Store. Tim was clear that Apple never considered doing so.ā€"

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2022/12/01/elon-musk-apple-never-considered-removing-twitter-app-store/

zackster as per my earlier post:

ā€œIt could just be that he’s just publicly calling out Apple’s monopolistic practices now as a PR move in retaliation for Apple threatening to pull advertising off twitter, as opposed to him actually being prepared to stage a legal battleā€

And the upshot was that the companies agreed a truce rather than continuing to make threats and sling mud.

Hursty he also posted the swimsuit trunks picture of Musk and shared their DMs. Seeing how much antisemitic stuff on Twitter is just fine and dandy with Musk one can wonder which actually was behind the ban.

Homegrove one can wonder which actually was behind the ban.

    One could.

Or one could think of better things to occupy one’s time

Homegrove probably the bat shit crazy Hitler rant and subsequent unwinding on Twitter?

In other Elon news, the Tesla Semi is due for unveiling in Nevada later for the first customer handover. Stacked against the DAF model the Semi wipes the floor in terms of range. It will be interesting to see how succesful it is.

That aside, this isn’t the most exciting technology launch today, the far more important B-21 Raider is being unveiled in Palmdale, California today, literally cannot wait to see what the next generation of long range bomber looks like. (Much like the B2 I suspect!)

Mad_Cyril Nope, it’s my own excitement truly!

I did initially write something along the lines of ā€œthe latest civilisation vaporiserā€ but toned it down

Are you thinking about buying a state of the art long range bomber, hursty? Apologies about my post making fun of your friends and your choice of trabs. It was meant as a light hearted ribbing and I hope you don’t drop a 5000lb bomb in my street, mate.

Yet again you’re so desperate, it’s truly pathetic.

        Here you go:
