ScottBailey If you’re currently a manager/head coach of a club whereby you decide which players play and in what system, you’ve have to be mad to say yes to Chelsea or Utd now. Think Chels’ had the watershed moment and like idiots we’ve decided to copy. Dunno who the fuck Wilcox thinks he is, thinking he’s the one to pick the players, the team and the system, which is what’s basically come from this…
I disagree with that from the United perspective; their big mistake was in appointing a 343 manager to begin with - it’s an overly negative system for a club like United, and which required an entirely different squad to vaguely make the system not look shite.
Amorim’s negative approach is completely wrong for what United should be, and maybe Wilcox has finally cottoned-on to that. Most players are used to slotting in to a 433 nowadays and so that’s what United will recruit to, rather than bend everything to accommodate Amorim’s niche approach. If they just pick a manager next whose preferred system is actually one the board is happy with to begin with i.e. a more front-footed 433, then I think there will be far less friction there between manager and board.
With Chelsea it was different as the board were apparently going in to the dressing room to give team-talks, and also telling the manager who to play. A United manager favouring a system the board were happy with would I think get more leeway on the day-to-day club running, and player selection front, and have less problems with the recruitment strategy.
