Seems a sensible time to do it from their side to be fair, it seemed inevitable that he was going to be given the boot but it would have looked worse if they’d had to do it after he’d won a trophy, however tin-pot a cup it is.

The level of dislike may also now be so high that they didn’t want to give Mourinho even the minor satisfaction of having won something else in his career.

Quelle surprise. How is this even relevant? The money isn’t the issue, the complete disregard for grass roots football is. The complete disregard for the pyramid of football. When you reach the premiership you get rewarded, its open to all 90 odd teams. Name me any business that isn’t about money? The status quo is that they are making it elite to a few teams which disregards the very nature of football and its structure. I cant believe how many time this has to be reiterated.

RichM Obviously this will not happen in a bazillion years but Morinho has a soft spot for Newcastle due to his Bobby Robson connection. We’d welcome him with open arms. If the takeover goes through, then you never know. Stranger things have happened in football - like, within the last 24 hours for example.

I don’t like the fact that clubs are also becoming more eminent than countries.

This will further destroy stuff like the World Cup, as players are banned for joining the breakaway league, or a seriously powerful Real Madrid and Barcelona (for example) may basically have 90% of the Spanish team between them and just start being a pain in the arse about releasing them for games.
