I’d be proper fewmin if I were a United fan to be honest.

Even at the height of their dominance, we always put in a performance. The 1-0 (Danny Murphy) at Old Trafford and the 3-3 (fightback from 3-0 down, Clough got at least one goal, when we were total dogshit in the league and the FA Cup that season) spring to mind. Presumably United fans would expect the same.

The obvious blame is with the Glazers and Woodward but the rot set in during the last few years of Fergusons reign. How long have United been “on the look out” for a holding midfielder; over 15 years at this stage. I remember United fielding teams with John O’Shea and Phil Neville in centre mid FFS! Their recruitment and scouting has been on the decline for 20 years now.

bosstrabs This is probably the most frustrating part of all. I think you’re absolutely right. Sancho’s got immense talent, and would be an absolute asset under a Klopp/Guardiola type set-up.

SM001 I look at the core of the 2007/2008 side, and it was still strong. Van Der Sar, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Carrick, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez.

It’s the generation that came after them that were woefully under-equipped IMO.

Jones, Evans, Smalling, Rafael, Valencia, Januzaj, Fellaini - all playing 20+ league games by 2013….

It’s just been revealed that Utd have ditched their two head scouts - about time too.

Donny VDB for 40mil, Sancho for 70+mil (and when they needed a RW), and Diallo for 20mil+ are all worthy of being sackable offences in their own right.

Not sure - think he’s too lazy, slow and timid for Klopp.

For what it’s worth he did absolutely nothing for England whenever he played as well, even against inferior opposition and when he was in form for Dortmund. He looked slightly inferior to the likes of Sterling, Foden, Saka and Rashford when used and it was no surprise he was stopped being played even before he signed for Utd.

He could still improve at Utd but regardless the signing seemed to be a mistake.

At Dortmund Sancho played:

RW - 70 matches - 0.34 goals per game; 0.51 assists per game
LW - 45 matches - 0.44 goals per game; 0.51 assists per game
CAM - only 19 matches - 0.26 goals per game; 0.21 assists per game

So you seem to be very much talking out your backside there.

Plus it wouldn’t mitigate against the signing being a mistake for the money either given that they didn’t need to sign a CAM.

To be fair, it wouldn’t surprise me if it might help him a marginal amount at Utd if he played at CAM as it could help cover for his lack of pace, but he’d still need to increase his general performance level and intensity to be even considered as worthy of a starting spot long-term anywhere on the pitch.

He’s often struggled to do the basics of even completing simple short passes accurately this season, and is too happy to slow the game down when he gets the ball and/or turn backwards, even with lots of space in front of him. Him moving a few yards infield isn’t going to suddenly make him capable of those. Plus even at LW this season he already often drifts off the flank in to a more CAM position, from which he proceeds to do nothing.

Central Attacking Midfielder aka no.10, aka most advanced in a midfield 3, i.e. playing behind the CF. e.g. Bruno Fernandes, Kevin De Bruyne, Mason Mount etc.

What’s wrong? How else should they be called?

Only other thing I can think to add is that it could be further abbreviated to just AM, but the C part helps to clarify.
