This part of the article is something I’ve been saying all along is something that will surely happen:
“United are understood to have discussed a phased process that would include encouraging the player to receive counselling, as well as the possibility of exposing him to a television interview in which he is challenged on the events that have brought him to this point.”
There was surely something else to what was going on than whatever was carefully leaked to the public. Lots of people jumped to conclusions based on that but the CPS, after seeing more of the evidence than the public got to, saw otherwise.
Greenwood seems on course to return, but it won’t happen without PR like such an interview explaining more about the events.
Also, regarding the supposed fans’ protest talked about in that article - I also wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t carefully managed PR from a PR firm on behalf of Utd. It seems a bit fishy that “The women behind the protest may want to remain anonymous for the time being”, and yet they have been getting a fair bit of publicity.
I wonder if such a feminist-angled protest led by a bunch of randoms wasn’t created to pre-empt and ultimately subdue any more serious and disorderly protests which may have occurred. The kind of yobs who might be more likely to actually pose more of a proper nuisance might not be so keen to get in line behind something organised by a bunch of anonymous young feminists.
