I’m not bothered Liverpool have more decisions against, I’m just sick of VAR sterilising the game.

All of the decisions were “correct” as per the rules of VAR, I just have just lost all enjoyment and excitement I used to get watching the game.

Worst thing is, it’s here to stay.

On the offside rule and VAR, could they not get rid of the lines and then have the linesman look at the screen? You get rid of the lines which are fucking everyone off, and put the decision back down to the opinion of the linesman. You don’t get any lines in the rugby video decisions and most rugby fans seem to be happy with that. Although I appreciate they are very different games with different attitudes towards the officials.

The lines they draw on at the end? It’s only the PL that choose to use those on TV.

Simple answer: the tech isn’t sophisticated enough to do it any other way at the moment.

Amps Can’t comment on Yawn-ion, I barely watch it, but in league there is also that a try isn’t always an absolutely game-defining decision. It’s not uncommon for a game to be 7 tries to 4, for example. Less riding on that one decision than in a 1-0 game of football.

The thin crosshair type lines determine where the players are in relation to each other. The thicker red and blue ones they draw on at the end are for ‘clarity’, only used in the PL. Not sure how the fuck they thought that was a good idea.

Is it just me though, or does it ‘feel’ like they get it ‘more right’ in the rugby? Or is it just a case of them having more definitive rules in both codes of the game? Or just that people don’t go a mental at rugby? Think at one point there where 38 rules that could be applied to a tackle in Union.

Amps There is also a sort of elevation of ‘the game’ above everything. People going to enjoy the game as a spectacle. There is a lot of bile spewed at a Warrington vs Wigan or Saints or Widnes game, but nothing near the level of football, and most fans are there to watch a game they enjoy watching. How often do you hear footy fans say “we lost but it was a decent game and day out”. Stuff like Liverpool fans applauding opposition goalkeepers is talked about because it’s such a rare display of non-partisan sportsmanship.

Amps I’ve been to rugby quite a lot and am learning the game - most people I know who are massive fans don’t know what’s going on - I ask them why something a penalty and they have no clue.

bosstrabs Agreed, very different cultures. I don’t know if is me getting swept up in the ‘rage against VAR’, but I’m some how constantly gobsmacked at how bad the reffing is… I just don’t seem to have that reaction to the rugby.

In fairness, having just seen the highlights of our game today, though all the decisions where pretty much spot on, nothing to complain about.

Amps This is my point, by the letter of the current law, it is 100% laser guided correct.

The emotion is now fake and the game is sterile.

That isn’t the game I’ve grown up with….and I’m a young pup! 😉
