  • Arrival: Special Set Opening Tracks

For those special tracks that can be used if I want to make a more pronounced start to my live sets, this year I’ve created a new tag in my collection called “Arrival” (often paired with “Moment”)

From live experience, here are a few of what I’ve found so far, that work in some early / mid / peak scenarios.

Whether you’re a DJ or music lover, what have you heard sets open with that you loved?

(moment: all of it)

(moment - 2 min 19)

(moment - 2 min 50)

(moment - 5:00)

How much time do you spend fucking around with data, tagging etc Nass and do you enjoy it?

Not long now mate, I buy a track, throw it in NEW TO SORT, play about 10 seconds of it over the breakdown (press keyboard shortcut 2 for Hot Cue B over it’s first main drop) and throw it in the playlist(s) that match, then tick the few tags and done.

Per track I’d say its about 45 - 60 seconds of work as you get faster the more you do it, but the payoff immediately and long-term is high along with the feeling confidence it brings.

What would be a few of your tracks?

NasserAlazzawi What would be a few of your tracks?

Not something I spend much time thinking about to be honest.

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again; there is too much admin involved in DJing these days 😅

Title, Artist, Key & BPM available by default. And that’s 100% more info than a bag of records.

Not sure what any admin on top of this adds other than tedium?

      SM001 Totally mate.

But - the point in this thread isn’t to talk technical - I’m hoping we can discuss great opening tracks that leave a mark.

And you, my man, will know more than any of us considering I’ve only just realised the sheer amount of work you’ve put in to 1001 Tracklists!

The best opening record I have ever heard played out.

This is where a list of old Sasha sets and the opening tracks would be nice, he had some fantastic ones back in t way

alistair a list is more than 1! It was a lazy suggestion of someone doing a load of Sasha opening tracks

However that one is superb 👍🏻
