Yup. Blake Baxter and Eddie Fowlkes were the djs out of the early detroit scene. Juan and Kev didn’t get as much early work bc they couldn’t dj. They’ve openly said this in interviews.

zackster They’ve openly said this in interviews.

Ah. Interesting. I didn’t know that.

A lot of those Detroit guys weren’t very good DJs even by the standards of the time. Larkin, Carl Craig, Pullen. Add them to the list. Knocked out great tunes, mind, but compared to some of the other US DJs on the circuit around then (Farina, Doc Martin, Terry Mullan, DJ Dan, Trisco, Hawtin - even if they played different dance music they were still on two decks), their technical skills left a lot to be desired, IMO.

jonattonyeah theres a good doc on Tresor where Baxter and Jeff Mills talk about how they were the only ones who would go because no one else thought they could dj well enough.

May has been dropped from the line up. I hope you are all happy!

I’d be in the MAW room all night anyway

I wonder what Kev and Juan think about all this, or are they in on it too…

Echo my guess would be the knew but just compartmentalized. Can’t really see either of them being into that.

Don’t see any reasoning on the LWE site explaining why he was dropped……..or maybe he pulled out. Based on what i’ve read though pulling out isn’t really Mr Mays thing 😆

Dan Chelmsford? My old patch…….Where on earth did he play there? YMCA? 😆

Dan all roads lead to the ’Ford…….cut my teeth during the glory days of Peri’s, Monday “Rave” night down Dukes, tear ups outside the Kebabery/bus station and promoting/DJing down Chelmsford City FC Social Club 1990-92 when I was in 6th form……halcyon days indeed 😆

IndustryStandard My mate Joe Morena did gigs down there. Remember him? SPS him and Dave Valentine and Ian Wright who was a resident at Oscars.

Dan mr rams kebab was always good

Seems like there are quite a few people from Chelmsford on here

Prince of orange with Maff and knuck playing

Christian I used to play alongside them on a Friday up at the Prince. Top lads.

The Ship for me and my old crew. Sometimes Bay Horse. Odd place growing up in Chelmsford . Back then not far enough from London to form any identity of its own, but also too far away to be really influenced by london quickly . Made us adopt a real DIY attitude, doing parties , bunking school to go record shopping / clothes shopping . Zoom, Soul II Soul, MASH.

Back then in Chelmsford we had New Era which was a clothes store then a market stall a couple of days a week for tunes.
