Nearly at the end of #16, and yes it’s the best so far. Different this time in that I wasn’t interested in buying any new music because of it, but it’s just flows so well, and works as a whole. That old nutshell of the end result being greater than the sum of it’s parts.

Track 19 is proper hands in the air / breakbeat madness . Be nice if Diggers confirmed some of these ID / IDs once in a while . I’m using these mixes as a sort of record shop session, hearing tracks then buying / pre ordering . Sure producers who get a track on these mixes see a massive uptick in sales / pre orders so it all goes back to the artists. Not releasing track lists is counter intuitive IMO, unless there are cheeky uncleared edits out there - just note those as cover ups or something .

IndustryStandard I’ve never known any DJ’s to be concerned with ID requests. I think some get off on knowing people are scrambling around searching for an ID. Like they’re holding The Arch of the Covenant or something. I can understand a track being sat on for contractual reasons if it’s unsigned. Otherwise I don’t see the point. I enjoy tracking down ID’s, it’s just part of the fun!

SM001 I still remember the days of people like Pete Tong saying the tracklisting would “be in the back of the next issue of Mixmag”, only for it to be a full list of ‘Unknown - Unknown’.
I was in a right mess over some ID’s for months at a time. Inventions like Shazam have been a god send. Made the whole process a doddle in comparison.

Yeah, when I was a jobbing DJ for a short while in the 90’s I knew several people who would tape or marker pen the centre of their 12” to stop trainspotters from getting the ID. I presumed it stopped the track from played by everyone so they could keep it in their sets for a longer period of time. Now the big names just request exclusivity on certain tracks I think?
