For sure I’m massively late to the party on this one but I have been on Bandcamp for ages and ordered vinyl bits and pieces on it but just downloaded the app onto my phone - really good for proper non-beatport grown up house and other bits.
Anyone on here actually using it (and who are you so I can follow and see what you’re buying - liking that feature!)?

…yup, more and more. Has really come through in lockdown, profits to the artists on Fridays etc. Increasing number of decent producers bypassing labels altogether and releasing exclusively there

I use it as some tracks are cheaper to buy than on Beatport etc. It’s a pain in the hoop to navigate though.

SM001 Yeah, I have to search for music elsewhere, then go to Google and type artist track bandcamp. But I do try to buy as much as is there of the tracks that I’ve found elsewhere.

i upload everything to bandcamp and buy the odd track there too. it’s definitely the best way to support artists you like. as long as they keep waiving artist fees the first friday of every month, i’ll be timing my releases and purchases on that schedule.

    3 months later

Word of warning to anyone who uses Bandcamp. If you have items in your cart for purchase at a later date; if you delete your cache & cookies you lose your cart.
    Fucking amateurs 😠

Also if you log in one browser, say at work, and put stuff in your crate, when you log from a different computer the crate is empty.

Another annoyance on BC is if you’re buying music that is priced in different currencies, you can’t check out your basket in one transaction. You have to check out each item individually.

Homegrove Happens to me, it’s annoying having to pay on a different current full stop. I have to use a free foreign transaction credit card which I only use abroad and it’s a mild pain.

Still, I do prefer to use it as it’s better for artists and check if tracks are there before buying on Bestport too

Don’t use PayPal for foreign transactions - it’s a proper, proper rip off. I was paying for my cycle coach on Training Peaks via PayPal and too me years to realise that I save 30% (thirty percent) by using my foreign transaction card.

I buy stuff mixed in euros, pounds and dollars all the time, and Bandcamp always lets me check out all at once. Only difference if an artist demands Paypal. Then I have to check out that separately.

I wonder why I can do it, but you can’t? Brexit? 😃

Find it hard to find anything to be fair.

Feels like shopping at one of those independent clothes shops that wants to be cool but has a lot of shite in between the odd nugget, and a really bad layout. The UX is piss-poor.

Could be the way I’m using it, but rapidly coming to the point where I’m giving up. Shame as the concept is a great one. But I’ve spent hours wading through stuff with very little to show for it

Mad_Cyril I don’t use it to search - I follow labels on there and check the tracks in my crate on Beatport. Bit of a pain, but makes me feel better helping producers out.

Mad_Cyril The interface is a mess. I persevere with it as it can be much cheaper than other sites. I picked up the last Bedrock EP for £2 where it was 6euro on Beatport. I rarely go thru it hoping for a gem. I just follow artists and labels and get notifications or wade thru back catalogues.

Along_the_Wire I do the exact same thing. End up saving money too.

          Still discovering who/whats worth following.

Might try that at a later point, at the moment the saving doesn’t equate to time spent.

Thanks for the ideas though chaps 👍

I too search elsewhere, and buy from Bandcamp as much as I can.

this is the way to go. buy from bandcamp whenever posssible.
