What’s the story on the grapevine here, Wal?

    The project lead for Assassin’s creed Valhalla has stepped down from his role after being named and shamed on twitter for workplace scum baggery. It’s really poor timing as the marketing push for the game (including having this guy do interviews across the board) was only a few weeks ago. (but that’s besides the point obv)

    I think in this case he was having an affair with another younger, less senior member of staff however most of the stories are about sexual harassment and abusive practices.

    There’s a whole slew of naming and shaming going on for various developers at the moment - It’s actually quite upsetting because some of these places have always seemed to have their heads screwed on and been progressive (e.g. Insomniac got it too with one of the staff being a sexual harasser) and I know people at some of the places. I guess you can’t get rid of all the bad apples however hard you try.

    I’m waiting for stories about R* to come out tbh which is gonna be gutting if they do. FWIW, R* have tried really hard over the last few years to improve things for everybody and are fully supportive of female members of staff and minorities - I’ve never seen anything to suggest any dodgy-ness there in my 10 years but then it would be naive to think that means it doesn’t happen 🙁

            Wally Everyone knows R* has issues though, so anything from them will probably be ignored as news? Or will everyone just pile on?

                Where there’s blame theres a claim Wal. My advice is, once the shit hits the proverbial, just make something up about Dave in the scripting dept purposely brushing past you with an obvious semi during a meeting break and you should get a decent package (excuse the pun).

                Amps What issues are those? They’ve had issues in the past but they’ve made massive efforts to resolve them over the last few years. I think those issues have mostly been about crunch time rather than #meToo style sexual harassment (with one notable exception).

                      The “cinematic trailer” (for TLOU Part 2) was just on TV again, and I just had a thought… What if that is using the graphics engine of the the PS5 version? 🙃
                      I quickly realised that’s ridiculous and that I’m quite stoned 😐

                            Finished The Last of Us 2 today. Superb game, I was in awe at some of the cut scenes and gameplay. It’s got a lot of hate online and I cannot fathom why, think people forget at times it’s a computer game.

                              gcw Agreed. One of the best I can remember playing. I thought the way the two different story arcs were ultimately woven together was brilliant.
