The Wire, despite the heavy content, is actually very funny in parts. The Bunk/McNulty riffing; Rawls and his “gaping asshole” comments; Ziggy’s general terribleness.
The Corner didn’t have that. It was a little too all in.
You can see how they took the general model and made it into an actual series in The Wire. Bringing in Richard Price certainly didn’t hurt. It was also shot incredibly - they make Baltimore look beautiful despite how beaten down it is. The Corner, not so much - that was all depravity.
