i agree it is not as grim as requiem for a dream. thought it was really good and still cant believe how it was allowed to happen in the first place

It’s not as grim (you won’t see a gangrene ridden arm getting amputated, or the girl next door getting slammed with a two ended dildo), but it’s relentlessly depressing. That along with watching privileged white folk getting away with mass murder for 8 episodes, i was sick to my stomach for most of it.

i’ve just finished sopranos in it’s entirety in 10 days. it’s a different experience watching it that quickly as you remember every detail. this was my 2nd time through it and i still think the first 5 seasons are as good as any show ever, but the last 21 episodes in that split season are really bad, like last 2 seasons of game of thrones bad. they phoned it in and clearly only made it for the money.

LT42 good characters are the only thing that kept it alive. the plot development was non-existent, especially compared to the previous seasons. shit would just pop up out of no where and they’d start a plot line and it would disappear. plus they recycled a lot of ideas instead of telling a coherent story. people complained about the ending and as bad as it was, it matched the quality of the res of the season.

Where are you all on the finale.

I remember watching it live and screaming at the TV not knowing any better.

Not a great ending but I’ve warmed up to it. Hard to close a show like that. The Wire didn’t end great either. Only shows I can think of that nailed it are Breaking Bad, Six Feet Under, and The Shield (bonkers closing episode, that one).

i didn’t like it the first time, absolutely hated it the second time. it’s lazy, but so was the rest of the season. and yeah, i still say six feet under was the best ending to a show ever. oz was also solid to the end.

That show’s been lost and never seems to be brought up anymore. It’s an all timer for me. Insane that HBO had that Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Sex In the City (yeah yeah, it’d dumb, but it was a phenomenon), Curb all at the same time. That’s a fucking run.

I’m ok with the ending, J. Like you say, it was so hard to close it and there was zero chance of pleasing everyone.
