Just finished The Gentlemen.
Great cast and it was good to see Hugh Grant using a different voice and haircut for a change. An absolute pile of shite though. Guy Ritchie with his smarmy cockney script is now beyond stale. Convaluted nonsense to be fair with not one memorable character. That robbery with the dancing rapping ninjas? Do me a favour.
Recommended. 9/10.
LOL I didn’t mind it! But my expectations were very, very, very low. Not good but ehhhhh a fine few hours while making some dinner.
IT part two.
Fucking awful.
Strange that Stephen King hated Kubrick’s brilliant adaptation of The Shining yet he cameos (albeit briefly) in this pile of poo. This has more comedy value than horror.
I liked the first half! Latter half goes to absolute shit. But visually it’s quite good throughout.
And in fairness to King, Kubrick made a movie that is vastly different than the book. I wouldn’t be too happy either irrespective of the end result.
Crimes of the Future
David Cronenberg returns to body horror. Surgery is the new sex, I like a lot of Cronenbergs stuff and this has a few button pushing moments but found this a bit dull to be honest. Lea Seydoux is even more annoying than Kristen Stewart.
Agree with Jonathan, It Part One is awesome, Part Two is a mess. Shame, great to see Bill Hader always. He was the only good thing in it. Well, and Twiggy from The Wire.
I really liked The Gentlemen. Even bought the Blu Ray for a fiver.
Part 1 did really well to tap into the Stranger Things hype (beside the casting), was creepy and fun. Part 2 lost me big time.
I always thought the giant spider was a bit lame though.

Days of Thunder (1990)
You know, this movie is fantastic. It’s stupid and insipid….don’t care. Tony Scott is an absolute blast as a director (RIP). Tom Cruise at peak movie star. Loud, bombastic, and forgettable. No clue why Nicole Kidman is in it, but Hans Zimmer’s score is peak ’80’s even if the movie came out in ’90. All in all, not a good film rating-wise, but enjoyable nonetheless.
6 he destroyed both my cars out of 10
jonattonyeah Zimmer’s finest hour was the ‘going for gold’ theme tune.
His finest two hours was when I went see him in concert.
Proper evening in the company of genius. For Zimmer.
Scores the engine sound effects in my motor.
Delightful
Give it a few years and he’ll be known as Hans Zimmer frame.
Or something as equally horrific and dreadfully unfunny as that.
I’ve sent myself an invite worry not.
Operation Mincemeat. Horseshit more like - awful film, but had great story I knew nothing about. Everyone over-acted like their lives depended on it. Gets a 4/10 and only because of the story
Ben Macintyre’s books are generally class. Mincemeat is one of them. I recommend ‘The Spy and the traitor’. Class book.
Was gonna stick thief on but it seems you can’t rent it for streaming here in the UK. That sucks.
Got Lightyear cued up for this evening. Will report back.
