303abuser watched mencae ii society last night, it’s still a good movie with a distinct 90s feel. also started 1971 on atv. not a movie, but a documentary putting the music of that year into social context. first 4 episodes were interesting, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Jules72 Going to watch Quiet Place 2 over the next few days, so thought I’d watch the first one…a pretty simple film (about alien creatures who eat anything that moves) but tense and worth a watch…7.5/10

Dubman Jules72 I did quite enjoy the first one but I certainly wouldn’t call it a horror film. I think I heard Kermode say that William Friedkin has said the new film is a modern day classic.
Millsy I quite enjoyed A Quiet Place but it polarised opinion. I thought it was well acted and paced and the overall concept was new. Just had to suspend disbelief at things like how much sand they had managed to acquire and make paths from etc.
Wally Homegrove Michael Douglas gave a recent interview saying he just has a load of fun doing them, likes the people involved and them being CGI green screen heavy is a fairly new style of filmmaking for him. https://gamerant.com/michael-douglas-quantumania-filming-july/ Could just be fluff but as you say, he’s not exactly short on cash. I imagine him doing them convinced other actors of his generation to consider doing them too (Michelle Pfieffer for example).
Unbroken1 …about a month ago re-watched and enjoyed Peter Weir’s ‘Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World’ on FilmFour, disappeared down a google rabbit-hole as was aware it was adapted from one of a series of books and was wondering why they hadn’t made more of them. Seems it enjoyed quite a lot of critical acclaim but never really did a bomb at the box office. mono-stereo Unbroken1 for some reason I always thought this was a Ridley Scott film, gladiator on the 🌊 sea. Might have to give it a go.
Unbroken1 mono-stereo …funnily enough, think it was one of Crowe’s first films after Gladiator, hence the box office expectations. I do like this genre, (loved ‘The Terror’ etc.). If you can get past RC’s ‘miming’ on the violin, it’s pretty enjoyable.
Wally Unbroken1 The production design and acting is fantastic but nothing seems to happen. I need to watch it again I think but IIRC, they never come across the French boat that’s hunting them in the opening scene which seemed kinda disappointing - Chekov’s gun and all that - instead it’s Paul Bettany moaning about wanting to study on an island or something.
