Hanna (2011). Great soundtrack by The Chemical Brothers, some great long shots, really hammy performance from Cate Blanchett. Saoirse Ronan is great.

Homegrove This is a confusing review. Soundtrack is not a huge deal when choing a film for me. NOr are ‘long shots’ whatever they are. I do like Kate Blanchett though.

By the obvious avoidance of rating the film for its actual content am i to assume its bollox?

Recently got hooked on the Benson & Moorhead films, the first 2 below is some quality world building. Makes you think a bit, pretty slow pacing but a great build and really well done. Spring was a bit of a What WTF Fuck but basically a love story, similar pacing but some good twists. I havn’t seen Synchronic yet but the trailer makes it look like the most outlandish of the lot, and they certainly seem to have a bigger budget at their disposal - I hope that is not detrimental to the storytelling or characters.

Cage is a dude who lives with a pig in the woods who is forced back into society on a rescue mission. This is an odd, well-acted, strangely touching drama.

A corporate assassin gets injected into people, sort of like The Manchurian Candidate meets Freaky Friday meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is some fairly dark shit.

The Courier. The second film I’ve watched this year starring Benedict Cumberbatch alongside Merab Nindze. Based on the true story about a Russian spy a English businessman which defused the Cuban missile crisis in the 60’s. Great acting from the two main characters and a good story to boot. 8 Ed lookalikes/10

It’s not for everyone. But I love it otherwise too. It’s a Grimm-fairytale set on modern times, of which the movie is not subtle about. Blanchet is the evil step mother. She is usually very good in everything, so was surprised by her in this. Some really good acting in it otherwise, Tom Hollander steals every scene he is in.
