Smallman1 Along_the_Wire Jesus wept! The Drop is brilliant We’re talking about the same film right? The one where Tom Hardy makes a complete hash of his accent and drains the absolute living daylights out of his character charisma wise? And where Gandolfini phones in one of the worst performances of his career for an easy pay cheque?
Along_the_Wire I watched Paris, Texas on the plane - what a great film - I’ll give it a 9/10. I also re-watched Goodfellas - better than I remember it. Ash is the Purist White - Chinese number - grim in parts, but a very solid 7/10
Along_the_Wire You might have credibility when it comes to the clubbing coalface, but little or none at all when it comes to films.
jonattonyeah Koyaanisqatsi (1982) Absolute masterpiece. Was able to see Phillip Glass’ score performed live by the San Francisco Symphony with Godfrey Reggio’s film on a gigantic screen at Davies Symphony Hall. Was an amazing experience. Rewatching it tonight will never top that (even if I’m high as hell) but still just an immense audio/visual experience that not only holds up, but also feels more prescient. The last five minutes are as harrowing as any horror movie I’ve ever seen. A rare 10 god-we-have-ruined-everything out of 10
rhouses King Richard: I wanted this to be good and was quite excited for it. However, it’s a let down. About an hour too long, and really, nothing much happens. Can’t say I felt the grit or the struggle. Will Smith doesn’t nail the role either. The story is sort of a once in a lifetime situation, and they could have done much more with it. The tennis is good, I’ll give it that. The actresses play well. Wonder what Dan will think. 6.2/10
Jules72 rhouses agree it’s an hour too long (there are way too many films this long these days)… still fairly entertaining imo and the tennis sequences work well…7/10
Dan rhouses I’m not a big Will Smith fan (didn’t mind Enemy of the State & I Am Legend) but I’d give it a go. I’ve stood next to him when he was on the practice courts at Wimbledon. He’s a proper lump. Serena was hitting with Andy Roddick at the time.
