Nightmare Alley: Was sketch going into this after watching Crimson Peak a couple of months back - what shit show that was. This is definitely better, it’s not campy and it’s really dark and cynical. It reminded me of The Prestige and Deadwood. Beautifully shot, the yellow light really comes through. Acting also solid. My problem was with the plot pacing and the ridiculously obvious foreshadowing. Too much time given to the origin story in the carnival and not enough time given to the characters and plotting for the second part. Even with the things being 2 hours 30 mins.
Good movie overall, not without its faults, and I definitely wouldn’t label it great. 7.8/10
