Along_the_Wire I should probably give Thinner another chance. Read it as a teenager and didn’t like it. It’s one of the three books by King I don’t own, all because I didn’t feel the need to ever read them again. The other two are Misery and Gerald’s Game.

Homegrove i really liked misery, although i was probably 15 when i read it. haven’t read thinner myself, but my wife said it was good.

jonattonyeah personally found this unremittingly grim… and in a similar way to Joker last year, not for me. I do like a little bit of happiness, thrill or pleasure in a film I’ll admit - films as relentlessly depressing as this provide me with no viewing pleasure

No Country for Old Men, which came out around the same time, on the other hand was superb imo…

Totally understandable. TWBB is like a horror movie in many ways; just the antagonist being the struggles of family within unrelenting capitalism.

And yeah, funny story, they had to stop filming NCFOM for a few days as TWBB was shooting the oil fire scene right down the road and the smoke was too much for the cinematographer to shoot. Interesting those two films will always be bound to each other (NCFOM winning best picture, with TWBB nominated; DDL winning best actor; Bardem winning best supporting) while filmed in the same place, at the same time.

        jonattonyeah that’s interesting, I didn’t know that.

Personally thought NCFOM was pretty overrated but may be willing to give it a second look to make sure.

Both films are superb imo. The ‘I drink your milkshake’ scene in TWBB is incredible.

Millsy ….unless you happen to be vegan of course.

How would you all rank King adaptations?

            I’d go:

            1. Stand By Me
            2. The Shining (even if he hated it)
            3. The Shawshank Redemption
            4. The Dead Zone
            5. I dunno…Misery maybe; I always got a kick out of Cujo even if it’s not great; liked both of the recent It’s but that might be a nostalgia thing

            Shawshank Redemption
The Shining (best taken as “inspired by” the book, rather than a straight adaptation)
            Stand By Me
            The Mist
            The Green Mile

            In order:

            1. Shawshank Redemption
            2. Misery
            3. The Mist
            4. The Shining
            5. The Green Mile

stand by me is my favorite, the shining, shawshank, and greenmile are really good, followed by misery.

i’m not sure you guys watched the same ‘mist’ as i did, thought it was awful.

            The Mist was unwatchable
