Homegrove They had a budget of 15 000 000 for the whole movie which you can’t believe when you see it

Does that not just equate to ’they’re a bunch of cunts who under paid and over worked their staff, because that’s what the rest of the industry has been doing to the VFX teams for the past two decades’?

    Millsy pornography

I’ve once again been ‘working my way’ through Desireé Cousteau’s back catalogue. Excellent stuff all round.

Amps nope. Lots of planning. Same how The Creator was cheapish for how it looked. Most of CGI hell movies cost a lot because studios use it to try and fix problems in the post.

Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001). I recently bought the 4K restauration released by Studio Canal, and it was money well spent. A very heightened retelling of the Beast of Gevaudan, this French cult classic is set in 18th century rural France where everyone knows martial arts, Mark Dacascos in brown face playing a Native American who fights like he’s in Hard Boiled, and a match cut from Monica Bellucci’s breasts into two snowy mountains. You know, CINEMA.

Homegrove This was one of the first films I took Mrs Phil to see when we started courting, She pretended to like it at the time but later admitted she thought it was shit. I liked it but haven’t seen it since so might be time to revisit it…on my own.

      All of us Strangers (2023)

Barring the soundtrack, this was a very meh film. Surprised at the hype it has generated. Scandalous ’tache from Paul Mescal as well.

      5/10

Homegrove omg I forgot that movie. the type of film that only properly makes sense imo at 2am with a joint and a glass of wine.

Dune Part Two, round two at cinema tonight. Loved it even more. First movie I’ve paid to see twice since Blade Runner 2049. I entertained the idea to go see Oppenheimer again too, but in the end couldn’t bother to find the time for it.

      Spaceman (2024)

No, not a film about @seanc80’s infamous trabbs but a Netflix adaptation of a book about a Czech astronaut who travels solo to the outer edges of the solar system and learns something about love, life, loneliness and loss in the process. Starring 2023’s highest paid actor Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano.

Some very mixed reviews meant I went in with low expectations but I actually quite liked the way it tried to engage with some deep philosophical ideas. It was decent.

      7/10

Just a FYI, The Master and Phantom Thread are 5,90 and 4,90 € to buy in iTunes now. At least here. I’m filling the holes on my PTA-movies and bought both. There Will Be Blood I went with a physical copy. Now just need time to watch them all, I have plenty of time, but the wife less with her hobbies and she wants to watch them all too.

Someone sent me a quote from Spinal Tap yesterday so I thought I’d watch it this afternoon as haven’t seen it for 30-odd years. Imagine my surprise to learn that there’s some kind of legal dispute and it’s not available anywhere in the UK. I’ve just had to buy the cunt on Blu-Ray from eBay.

Along_the_Wire they’re doing a sequel now, which has to be a bad idea considering how old everyone is now.

Villain on Netflix. Suspected it would shit and just wanted an easy watch - it got 68% on RT., so ploughed on. What an absolute pile of utter tripe 0.5/10

              Craig Fairbrass is amazing.

He’s good in Muscle…Matt Johnson/The The soundtrack and directed by Matt’s brother.
              Cliffhanger too, obvs

              Poor Things (2023)

What a very odd film this was, yet kind of enjoyable. Mark Ruffalo was great in his role, and you can see why Emma Stone won the Oscar. I did like the odd camera style throughout, don’t think I’ve seen that in many films. Probably not something I’d watch again but a solid 7/10

gcw The wife was watching it the other week and it looked fucking odd…. I’ll probably watch it at some point.

                Good cast.

Poor Things was one of the funnest communal experiences I’ve had, just like Everything Everywhere All At Once. I was so happy I saw both at a movie theatre full of people. Lot of audible WTFs during both. The movies are in no way similar, but audience reactions were.

I had to switch off EEAAO early doors and I’m sure I’ll be the same with Poor Things.

                Films for the retarded imo.

C_J I sacked Everything Everywhere All At Once after 25 minutes……the pub was a much better option.

C_J Hated EEAAO, loved Poor Things. Although, I doubt that’ll help you.

I can just picture us in 2044 slagging off Hanners for buying the 20th anniversary (3D hologram edition) of Poor Things.

                  Well. Maybe not Granto.

C_J He’d get it on the future equivalent of Blu-Ray. I’ll be streaming via VR and taking an closer, more intimate look at Emma Stone

Millsy It’s a lovely little number with the Duchess of a Sunday afternoon. You’re a monster, Millsy.

Millsy It didn’t get passed the focus group, although it was put forward as a new Toy Story character.
