Its been a horrid week for Hollywood. The sign almost burming down, The Godfather labelled as boring and bad film making and now Mulholland Drive rated as the best movie of all time. What next?

LT42 MD does often get wheeled out on best movies of all time lists. Personally it’s not on my list, but I can see how it might be on someone else’s. It’s undeniably a good film imho.

On the subject of remakes, I found out recently they are remaking The Running Man with Glen Powell playing the Arnie role. Absolute sacrilege!

Along_the_Wire it’s supposed to follow the book more closely this time. Which should’t be hard because the Arnie-movie pretty much got his character’s name and the movie’s title from the book, and the rest they ignored.

I doubt they do the book’s ending though, no matter how long ago 9/11 was.

The Running Man film is pretty gash, directed by ‘Starsky’ from ‘and Hutch’ fame.
New one is Edgar Wright so should be alright, it you like Edgar Wright.

Amps The Running Man

Nothing like the book, but tons of fun all the same. The general mahogany acting is essentially forgiven due to the high levels of comedy violence and María Conchita Alonso in all manner of spandex action. It also has a ‘what the fuck’ cast of Mick Fleetwood, Jesse Ventura, Dweezil Zappa and Yaphet Kotto, plus, we get an ’I’ll be back’ from Arnold. Could have been bigger than Total Recall if it had more than a tenner budget.

3.5 chainsaws to the nuts out of 5.

Does the new one have María Conchita Alonso and a ‘picked up off of Sunset on a Sunday morning’ cast?

Yeah, collecting anything is a sickness, but I’m going to need to buy this from the next Criterion sale (November 2025 probably). That’s one cool cover.

Duel (1971). Steven Spielberg’s first film, a TV movie. The internal monologue was really bad, but otherwise it was really good. A truck as the shark in Jaws harassing and trying to kill a man in a car. Shot in ten days with excellent blocking and editing by a 24 year old boy. A long overdue first watch for me.

Homegrove an absolutely superb film (originally made for TV but extended slightly to upgrade it to a movie), I watch it every couple of years. Such a simple concept, and probably a miniscule budget, but a classic.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

I really don’t understand how they achieved making this film in the sixties. The early man make up and masks are the only thing that’s aged in this film in nearly sixty years.

Homegrove I loved it when I watched in in the 80s - made the family watch it with me a few years ago - I’m not sure they’re forgiven me even now. It was awful.

Amps oh I’ve seen this before, but not in a long time, and not this copy of it. I bought it on Blu ray at least five years ago for 5 €, and just shelved it. Same with Full Metal Jacket. We might watch that tonight, wife wants to watch that too. I saw them both with bunch of other Kubrick-films in the 90s. Blu ray on a modern TV looks a bit different than VHS on a tube one.
